This is an online game about art history and art composition. In the game, you play a 1940's noir detective with a degree in art history. A distraught woman asks you to identify the artist who made a painting she found in her grandfather's attic. To do so, you must examine paintings by famous artists from Gauguin to Van Gogh. Each example highlights an art concept such as composition, style or subject. The story concludes with an appropriate noirish twist, as the woman's true identity and motives become apparent.

15 minute Video & Lesson for Grades 3-5 “This program begins with an introduction of how America began - Columbus's voyage to the New World, the establishment of the 13 colonies, and the colonies' struggle for independence - and then focuses on the make up of the American government. Why are rules important for a community? Why is organization important? Our government has guides and rules such as the Constitution and the Bill of Rights that protect Americans’ freedoms and rights. There are structures, such as the Supreme Court, Congress, and the executive branch of the government, that are set up to help keep America running successfully and smoothly. The structures and documents of the American government are made clear in ways children can understand.”

Edsitement: The Constititon of the United States
September 17th is Constitution Day, commemorating the day in 1787 when the Founding Fathers signed one of America’s most important documents. The United States Constitution is the oldest written national constitution still in operation, and many of the nations that have established themselves in the decades since that day in 1787 have turned to this document as a model for their own constitutions. As a document which defines the structure of our Federal government and delineates the rights of the states within the union, and individual citizens within the nation, the Constitution has become a symbol to Americans and to the world of the American government and way of life. What better way to celebrate this important document, its place within our society, and within our history, than to investigate the words of this document up close. Teachers, parents, caregivers, and students, jump on board for a tour of the United States Constitution! Lessons are organized by grade level.

National Rainforest Week: Prek-4 Lesson
The rainforests are one of the world's largest natural resources. Home to millions of different plants and animals, rainforests cover about 7 percent of the world's surface and generate much of the oxygen needed for organisms to live. Sadly, these forests and the plants and animals within them are currently being destroyed at a rapid rate. Traditionally, the third week in October has been designated National Rainforest Week. The goal of this week is to educate people of every age about this global concern. Providing students with a chance to explore and appreciate the many wonders of the rainforest is key to ensuring the future of these forests. Voices From the days of Slavery: Former slaves Tell Their Stories
This site provides the opportunity to listen to former slaves describe their lives. These interviews, conducted between 1932 and 1975, capture the recollections of twenty-three identifiable people born between 1823 and the early 1860s and known to have been former slaves. Several of the people interviewed were centenarians, the oldest being 130 at the time of the interview. The almost seven hours of recordings were made in nine Southern states and provide an important glimpse of what life was like for slaves and freedmen. The former slaves discuss how they felt about slavery, slaveholders, how slaves were coerced, their families, and, of course, freedom. It is important to keep in mind, however, that all of those interviewed spoke sixty or more years after the end of their enslavement, and it is their full lives, rather than their lives during slavery, that are reflected in their words. They have much to say about living as African Americans from the 1870s to the 1930s, and beyond. As part of their testimony, several of the ex-slaves sing songs, many of which were learned during the time of their enslavement

You the Jury…….
This video involves the students first as jurors, then as legislative drafters, and finally as trial lawyers, judges and witnesses. the video begins with the trial of a teenager who bought a "hot" stereo and has been accused of receiving stolen property. After the trial, the students will decide guilty or not guilty. In the second segment of the video, a law professor walks the class through the Constitutional issues that were presented in the trial: the Confrontation clause, the Right to Trial by Jury, and Search and Seizure. these issues come alive as the video flashes between the words of the Constitution and their actual manifestation during the trial. the students will see an actual state criminal statute outlawing the receipt of stolen property. As most burglaries are supported by people who buy stolen goods, should the law be changes to make it easier to convict these people? If so, how might the statute be changes? Rewriting a statute forces students to write with precision. Students can then conduct their own trial. Some will be lawyers, other judges, witnesses, and jurors.
