Wanted: People with a passion for teaching and learning



The Transition II Teaching Program is designed to recruit, prepare, support, and retain teachers in high need schools in the Calcasieu Parish School System.

Guidelines...

  • Employed as a full-time teacher in Calcasieu Parish
  • Holds a BA or BS with a minimum of 2.20 or higher in a 4.0 scale
  • Is eligible for a temporary teaching certificate from the Louisiana Department of Education
  • Is presently enrolled or will enroll in an Alternative Certification program
  • Has obtained the signature of the hiring principal at a high need school
  • Has agreed to mandatory participation in the CPSS New Teacher Academy
  • Has signed the Transition to Teaching Memorandum of Understanding

Candidates will...

  • Begin teaching on a TAT (Temporary Authority to Teach) or PL (Practitioner License) while completing course requirements in an Alternative Certification Program
  • Teach in high need school for at least three years
  • Participate in high quality professional development through a variety of modes -- including intensive training through modules, online discussion, seminars and instructional coaching
  • Obtain tuition support through Teacher Quality Grant (8g)

Component One: Induction Camp

Three days of high quality professional development targeting the "first days of school' lesson planning, classroom management, and technology.

 

Component Two: Cohort Modules

Support T2T participants in meeting the standards of the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching (LCET).

  • Year One - Six modules which include face to face and online support
  • Year Two - Support with state certification
  • Year Three - Individual professional development

Component Three: Mentoring and Collaboration

T2T participants will be assigned a T2T Instructional Coach. Instructional coaches will provide support, demonstration lessons, and one-on-one mentoring.

Component Four: Financial Incentives

  • Technology Sign-on Package - participants receive laptop and printer
  • Induction Camp Stipends - Three day summer camp $396 stipend
  • 8(g) Local Teacher Quality Tuition Exemption - $1000 per year, 12 hour course work per year
  • Teacher of Record Incentive - Year two, $1574; Year three, $1574; Totaling $3148
