The mission of Project Gateway is to create building –level leadership capacity for school improvement and to elevate and sustain teacher and student content knowledge and performance in PK-16+ education, through standards-based learning supported by quality professional development. Project Gateway will serve as a catalyst for the institutionalization of systemic, standards-based reform in schools, districts and universities.
President Bush’s Commission on Excellence in
Special Education entitled, A New Era: Revitalizing Special Education for
Children and Their Families” set
the framework from which Project Gateway was based. Several findings have
a direct bearing on the academic achievement of students with disabilities.
Specifically the report found that Special Education (SPED) should be a
“gateway” to effective instruction and strong intervention.
