  Historical Perspective
In 1988, the Calcasieu Parish School System, in collaboration with the Chamber/Southwest Louisiana, created the Partners in Education Program. Partnerships between schools and businesses have evolved rapidly over the last decade. The concept of school/business partnerships has spread across the nation to virtually every state. There is strong evidence to support the premise that schools with community involvement show significant improvements over similar schools with little or no community support.

Over the years, community response to the needs of Calcasieu Parish students has been exemplary. With the inclusion of state-approved non-public schools, the community's response is just as noteworthy. This involvement is valued and appreciated and any existing cooperative efforts are supported by the Partners in Education program. This program builds on successful past relationships and fosters continued growth through traditional partnerships and innovative nontraditional partnerships.

Partnerships may be initiated by any business and/or school wishing to enter a declaration of partnership for the school year. Interested parties should contact the Partners in Education Program Coordinators for the Calcasieu Parish School System. As in any endeavor, the key elements are effective planning and a sincere commitment to insuring success of the partnership.
