Philosophy

     
  Partnerships across the country have found a variety of opportunities which are unique to particular areas of business. The following suggestions may be helpful as you make plans for your partnership activities.    
 
 
General Business Interest
  • serve as tutors or chaperones
  • donate used equipment
  • provide demonstrations or tours to highlight artistic and/or technical skills
  • allow students to design holiday cards, calendars, or covers for annual reports or other publications
  • sponsor field trips
  • provide display space for school partner
  • sponsor seminars for students and/or parent organizations
  • sponsor beautification projects such as landscaping
Arts and Entertainment
  • support curriculum needs with needed materials
  • sponsor artists in schools program
  • sponsor tickets for special events and performances
  • serve as judges for various activities
  • provide display areas for artistic efforts of students
  • provide seminars for students, teachers, and/or parents
Chambers of Commerce
  • participate in a speakers' bureau
  • participate in career days
  • provide information to enrich curriculum for consumer education
  • assist in efforts to introduce students to opportunities in the area for work, study, and participation in community projects
  • include school system personnel on chamber's education committee
  • sponsor a Junior Chamber of Commerce in schools
  • participate in leadership development opportunities for students and teachers
  • assist schools in obtaining additional partners from the business community
Civic Organizations
  • assist with obtaining speakers or special programs
  • provide guest speakers
  • sponsor service clubs or other after-school activities
  • support extended day programs, after school programs for students
  • provide incentive awards or scholarships
  • serve as a mentor for a student or group of students
Correctional Institutions
  • plants for horticultural department could be loaned to schools for special events
  • provide opportunities for inmates to talk with students about their experiences and the importance of job training and a quality education
  • provide opportunities for law enforcement employees to give presentations for
    students, parents, and teachers
  • inmates construct playground and physical education equipment, benches for
    school grounds, easels, and other teaching aids
Financial Institutions
  • provide guest speakers
  • work with teachers and/or curriculum specialists to provide up-to-date instructional materials for economics and banking
  • support consumer education programs
  • provide avenues for publicity throughout the community on school projects and
    activities
  • provide tours
  • tutor in math and business related courses
Food Management and Restaurants
  • assist with school awards dinners for students and/or volunteers
  • provide special demonstrations
  • provide speaker for career days
  • allow students to paint store windows or decorate for the holidays
  • provide display area for student honors or art work
  • recognize outstanding teachers, administrators, and support personnel
  • provide motivational awards for student accomplishments
  • sponsor tours of the business
Hospitals and Health Organizations
  • provide display space
  • utilize school personnel and students for mock emergency drills
  • participate in career days and health fairs
  • encourage volunteer efforts of students, staff, and parents
  • tutor in science and health-related courses
  • sponsor seminars for parents and teachers
  • provide resource people for classes
Law Enforcement and Governmental Agencies
  • provide field trips to court, city hall, or jail
  • serve as judges for academic competition
  • allow journalism or debate students to interview employees or officials
  • sponsor awards for top government students, top achievers, or top debate students
  • participate in competitive events such as field days with staff or students
  • tutor dropout students
  • assist the school with law-related education endeavors
Mall and Retailers
  • provide display space for student artwork
  • provide on-site musical performances
  • sponsor art contests, fashion shows, field trips, tours
  • provide an area for students to demonstrate a variety of physical education activities
  • provide time for handicapped students to visit Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny
  • cooperate with school attendance activities
  • publicize announcement of activities on bulletin boards or marquees
  • provide contests for commercial art students
Media and Communications
  • participate in Newspapers in Education program
  • provide speakers for career awareness programs
  • provide layout assistance for school publications
  • assist schools in reducing printing costs
  • develop a public relations campaign for education
  • sponsor spelling bee, writing, public speaking, and debate competitions
  • provide workshops for students on how to sell advertisements for their publications
Realtors
  • co-sponsor a project with a school service club
  • provide speakers on community issues
  • participate as a one-on-one youth motivator
  • conduct inservice programs on topics such as marketing, time management, or community needs
  • provide emergency assistance for students needing clothing, school supplies
  • sponsor a Saturday Scholars Program or a Saturday Community Clean Up Day
Schools
  • participate in voter registration drive
  • participate in walkathons for community benefit
  • support community clean up days
  • adopt a nursing home
  • provide games and entertainment for special needs students
  • high school students offer tutoring to elementary students
  • sponsor a Week of the Family with puppet shows, games, etc.
  • participate in peer behavior modification projects
  • assist charitable organizations
  • Senior Citizen Day Care study and site visit
  • canned good collection for the needy
  • adopt a park or community area to maintain
Sample Goal:  The goal of students of all ages will be to practice responsible behaviors that will positively impact the community. Students will become aware of the needs of the community and will find new and innovative ways to practice responsible citizenship.
