Middle School Professional Development
2009-2010
Differentiated Instruction will be the focus of the 2009-2010 Middle School Professional Development. Middle School Leadership Teams will attend a Conference and several workshops during the year.
Destination: Differentiated Instruction; Teaching to Reach ALL students, a two day workshop, will be facilitated by Melissa Dickson from SDE. This workshop will focus on strategies that will make it possible to maximize learning for all students. These instructionally intelligent strategies are based on student-centered best practices that make it possible for teachers to create different pathways that respond to the needs of diverse learners.
As a follow-up, Judith Goodman, Teacher Created Materials consultant, will provide techniques for applying Differentiation Strategies. This workshop will include techniques for classroom-management strategies, flexible grouping, questioning, multiple intelligences, choices, inquiry-based learning, self paced strategies, and tiered assignments.
In addition, Toni Bennett, Options for All Students in School (OASIS) consultant, will work throughout the year with Inclusion Teams from each middle school to facilitate co-teaching. Monthly visits will be made to assist and support schools in this process.
