Best Buy Te@ch Awards - Technology in K-12 classrooms

Eligibility:  Accredited non-profit K-12 public, private, parochial, magnet and charter schools

Award:  Best Buy gift cards in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $5,000

Deadline:  October 12, 2008 (submitted online by 11:59 p.m. Eastern DST)

 

The Best Buy Teach Award program recognizes creative uses of interactive technology in K-12 classrooms. Winning programs focus on kids using technology to learn standards-based curriculum, rather than on teaching students to use technology or educators using technology that children aren't able to use hands-on. The purpose of the Best Buy Teach Award program is to reward schools for the successful interactive programs they have launched using available technology. Please do not be discouraged from applying if your school does not have the most current equipment. Best Buy Te@ch Awards - 9th grade initiative

Eligibility: Accredited non-profit public, private, parochial, magnet and charter schools that serve 9th grade students

Award:  $10,000 (up to 15 awards)

Deadline:  October 12, 2008 (submitted online by 11:59 p.m. Eastern DST)

$10,000 Best Buy Teach Awards will be granted to up to fifteen (15) schools serving 9th grade students that display the greatest creativity in their programs/projects and the clearest vision of how to increase the school's use of interactive technology. The emphasis on 9th grade classrooms aligns with Best Buy's new @15™ philanthropic focus.

Lowe's Toolbox for Education:  K-12 projects

Eligibility:  Public K-12 school or parent group

Award:  Up to $5,000 per school

Deadline:  October 17, 2008

There is a preference for funding requests that have a permanent impact such as facility enhancement (both indoor and outdoor) as well as landscaping/clean up type projects. Sylvan Dell Publishing Resource Grant - Cross-curricular learning

Eligibility:  One elementary school per district; open to every district in the United States

Award:  One-year site license (value $599) providing unlimited access to Sylvan Dell eBooks

Deadline:  Ongoing

This grant is for a free, one-year (school year 2008/2009), site license (value $599) providing unlimited access to all 35 (soon to be 45) Sylvan Dell eBooks, featuring flipviewer technology with selectable English and Spanish text and audio. The license can be used on all school computers and may be placed on secure school websites, enabling students and their families to login and have access from their homes. All that is needed is broadband internet access. The eBooks will display with Windows or Mac operating systems and do not require special software, plug-ins or eBook reading devices.

Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries - Gulf Coast School Library Recovery  Initiative

Eligibility: Schools affected by the 2005 Hurricanes or schools that are being built in the areas affected by the 2005 hurricanes

Awards:  Amount varies

  The deadline for the next round of application has not been released as of September 16, 2008.  Please check the Laura Bush Foundation website for information on the next deadline.

Many schools in the Gulf Coast region were destroyed or severely damaged by the 2005 hurricanes, and part of the destruction was the loss of the schools’ libraries.  As a response to Mrs. Bush’s concern for the students of these affected schools, the Laura Bush Foundation established a special fund to help re-establish the book collections for the school libraries. Student Achievement Grants - Improvement of academic achievement in any subject area

Eligibility:  Applicants must be practicing U.S public school teachers in grades PreK–12, public school education support professionals, or faculty or staff at public higher education institutions

Deadline:  Applications are accepted at any time and are reviewed three times a year; the next deadline for review is October 15, 2008 for notification by January 15, 2009.

Awards:  $5,000

The NEA Foundation provides grants to improve the academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher education institutions in any subject area(s). The proposed work should engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter. The work should also improve students’ habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection. Proposals for work resulting in low-income and minority student success with honors, advanced placement, or other challenging curricula are particularly encouraged.  For information on submission timelines, grant restrictions, and application instructions, visit the NEA Foundation website.
 

Goody's Good Deeds for Schools - PreK-12 Programs

Eligibility:  PreK-12 Schools

Deadline:  November 1, 2008

Eligibility:  Must be located in a community where Goody's stores are located

Funds:  Fifty (50)  $10,000 awards

Could your school use some help keeping up the good work? If so, then Goody's would love to hear about it.  Good Deeds for Schools is a grant program designed to help schools pay for the things they really need but can't afford through regular education funding.  With this program, Goody's will award $10,000 each to 50 schools in communities where Goody's stores are located.  Imagine your classroom or school receiving a grant for $10,000 to spend on things that were previously pipe dreams.  Click here to begin the process of making your dreams for your school a reality.

Matching Book Grant - Classroom Libraries

Eligibility:  Elementary Teachers/Librarians

Deadline:  November 30, 2008 (EXTENSION)

Awards:  Matching awards of  up to $20,000

The Literacy Empowerment Foundation (LEF) has increased the size of the matching grants available to $20,000.00 per school. A school can now order $40,000.00 worth of books and pay only $20,000.00. (Any amount purchased from $100.00 to $20,000.00 will be matched.) The Matching Book Grant Program offers Guided Reading and Independent Reading Collections. Guided Reading Collections consist of 6 copies each of 18 titles. Independent Reading Collections consist of one copy each of 108 titles. With each set of Guided Reading and/or Independent Reading Collections purchased at the regular price, an additional set of your choice will be included free of charge.  No special screening or application required; click here for a list of collections and an online order form.

The Teaching Tolerance Grant Program - preK-12 programs

Eligibility:  preK-12 classroom teachers

Awards:  $500 to $2500

The Teaching Tolerance Grants Program supports preK-12 educators with funds to develop and implement innovative anti-bias projects in classrooms, schools and communities.  The grants are awarded to support projects designed to reduce prejudice among youth, improve intergroup relations in schools and/or support educator professional development in these areas.
