Public School Choice  - School Choice Form | School Choice Parent Letter

In accordance with Bulletin 111:  The Louisiana School, District, and State Accountability System, federal law requires school districts to offer students at schools that have been identified as Academically Unacceptable Schools (AUS) or Subgroup Component Failure Level 1 (SCF1) schools the chance to transfer to other schools in the same district.   Only students who attend a school identified by Louisiana State Department of Education for school improvement are eligible for school choice.

The district assures that all qualifying students in schools identified for school improvement will be provided the option to move to a higher performing school.  We have defined high performing schools as those schools with a School Performance Score of 80 or above and are not in Academic Assistance.  School choice is mandatory for the school district, but is optional for parents.  The district assures that low income, low performing students will be given first priority in the selection process.

Parents of students in schools that have been identified for school improvement will be notified by letter of the opportunity to transfer their child to a higher achieving school in the district.  The letter will explain the criteria that identified the school as a choice school, what the choice school is doing to address the problem of low achievement, and how the parents can become involved in addressing the academic issues that caused the school to be identified for school improvement.  Parents of students in choice schools will be notified of the higher achieving schools available for transfer. Current schools available for transfer, Moss Bluff Middle, Maplewood Middle, Arnett Middle, Bell City High and S.J. Welsh.

Parents will have a 10 day deadline to declare the school of choice by making formal application to the Child Welfare and Attendance Office.  The Child Welfare and Attendance Office will notify parents of the approved transfer within 3 - 5 days.

Transportation will be provided by the school district to the school of choice.
