Title IV - Parent/Community Programs
Supporting School
Success (K-3rd) is a five-week series
that emphasizes discussion among parent and
grandparents—talking about their experiences,
what works well, what doesn’t work—and enables
sharing the humor, friendship, and wisdom that
comes from being parents. In these lively
groups, parents will learn how to improve
communication, reduce misbehavior, and help
children develop an attitude and love of
learning.
Guiding Good Choices
(4th-8th) is a five-week series that
helps parents develop clear family guidelines
and expectations for their children. Sessions
involve improving communication, learning skills
to help children control anger and resist peer
influences to engage in risky behaviors, and
strengthening family bonds through discussion
about children as assets to the family and their
roles in such things as making family rules and
decisions and helping with daily tasks that are
needed to keep the family going.
SDFSC
Lending Library houses an extensive
collection of videos, DVDs, books, curriculum
guides, and other materials on numerous topics.
School staff members, parents, and community
organizations can check out materials for 10
days.
Helping Children Learn
(K-5) and
Helping Students Learn (6-12) are
newsletters sent to each school to distribute to
parents. They include valuable, practical ideas
for interacting with children and youth.
