How
to Recognize a System Error on a Mac
When
a system error occurs, the system usually displays a dialog box
and depending on what the dialog box says, it can be an easy fix.
You can recognize a system error by any of the following symptoms:
*A
dialog box with a bomb icon that may contain a error message such
as "Sorry a system error has occurred" or
"Application unknown has unexpectedly quit,"
"Type
1" or "-36"
*
An alert dialog box with an exclamation point.
*The
Mac freezes, displays an incomplete or flickering dialog box, or
processes endlessly.
When
a system error occurs, write down the exact messages or symptoms,
what you were doing, and whether the errors occur on only a
certain file or application. Errors may seem random but by
taking notes, you can sometimes identify a pattern. For example,
note whether the error occurs:
After you perform a particular action.
Only in a particular file or all files in a particular application
Only in one application or with all applications.
With Finder tasks.
You
can experiment to determine exactly when the error occurs which
will lead you to finding the exact culprit and usually you can fix
it by trashing and reinstalling the problem application or file
within the system.
