Get Smart With SmartArt
SmartArt is a new feature in Office 2007 that offers an easy way to create very smart diagrams and business graphics. Like other elements, these are formatted to match the current PowerPoint 2007 Theme. Typically you create SmartArt objects by choosing SmartArt on the Insert tab, and then type the data for the graphic. If you already have a list prepared, you can select the text and, in the Home tab's Paragraph area, locate and click the Convert to Smart Art Graphic icon. It's not easy to see, but it's there and is only available in PowerPoint.

Flipchart Fundamentals (Step 2 in a series of 6)
In this six part series, we are looking at the fundamentals of flipchart making. Last week, we looked at Step 1-Use proven lesson planning strategies. This week we will look at the next step.
Step 2: Maximizing student participation. When considering the role of the student in the lesson, attempt to create multiple opportunities for interaction, response and feedback. You want the students actively participating in the lesson, not just serving as a passive audience to a presentation. Try to “mix up” the types of interaction as well. Students can interact verbally, come up to the board individually, work from their seats with the Activslate, or participate as a group using Activotes. A great way to keep students on task it to keep the Activotes out all the time and ask students to agree or disagree with what an individual has contributed to the discussion or lesson.
Be sure to log into Promethean Planet and check out the Teacher Feature section of Promethean Planet for great examples of lessons and videos showing award winning teachers in action. If you don’t already have an account for Promethean Planet, you need to create one. The account is free and allows access to flipcharts, resources, ACTIVtips, and more.
