Four NETS for Better Searching
We've all struggled to find the right web site! This site walks you through the sometimes tricky process of queries and searches. http://webquest.sdsu.edu/searching/fournets.htm
Locking The Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 Toolbar
One of the new IE 6 features that we like is the ability to lock down the toolbars. It seems our toolbars were always changing (or someone was changing them for us). But, in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, you can right-click a toolbar and choose Lock the Toolbars. This is a toggle command. If "Lock the Toolbars" is checked, the toolbars are locked. If it isn't checked they are not locked.
Macintosh Startup Guide
Sometimes it is necessary to startup a Macintosh computer from a CD. For instance, if you need to reformat a hard drive, run disk first aid on the hard drive, or restore system software.  To boot from a CD, do the following:  Insert a CD that contains system software such as the Mac OS Software Install CD or the Software Restore CD that came with your machine. 2. Make sure that the Caps Lock key is not on. 3. Hold down the "C" key on the keyboard and choose Finder menu item: Special > Restart.  When you see the "Mac OS" screen with the words "Starting Up," release the "C" key. Once it finishes starting up, you can use the CD to perform the necessary actions such as installing or restoring system software. As a double check, to make sure that you have booted from the CD and not the hard drive, the icon for the CD should appear in the upper right corner of your desktop above your hard drive icon. If not, simply repeat the procedure above to ensure that you are booting from the CD.
Great Resource!
The Gateway to Educational MaterialsSM is a Consortium effort to provide educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial Internet sites. GEM is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and is a special project of the ERIC Clearinghouse on Information & Technology. Teachers, parents, administrators can search or browse The GatewaySM and find thousands of high quality educational materials, including lesson plans, activities, and projects.  http://www.thegateway.org
Save All Your Word Documents at Once in Word & Excel
If you know the "secret" key, you can save or close all of your open documents in one step.  Hold down "SHIFT" and click the File menu. When you hold down "SHIFT", two new options appear on the File menu: "Close All" and "Save All".  To save all your open documents at once, click "Save All". Or, to close all your open documents, click "Close All"; Word will prompt you to save your changes before closing any documents.
Internet Explorer Tip
To type a website in the address bar of your browser without the "http://www." or ".com", enter the address and press control+enter to quickly place the "http://www." and ".com" for you.  (For example, you would type yahoo then press control+enter and IE would convert it to http://www.yahoo.com)
Article Summary: (A continuing series ... part 8 out of 10)
Success is a Choice: Ten Steps to Overachieving in Business and Life By Rick Pitino (with Bill Reynolds) ISBN# 0-553-06668-4  Hard work comes with a price. And those who pay the price are less willing to surrender to obstacles that come their way. Anyone can "showboat" for a day, a week, or even a month. But "steady at the helm" keeps the boat afloat and sailing in the right direction. Look at stumbling blocks as opportunities to succeed. Be flexible, and adjust your course so that you do not get sidetracked. Eliminate the word "quit" from your vocabulary and replace it with "persistence." The PHD's (Poor, Hungry, Driven) will come out on top because they are willing to stay the course.
