Make a Scrapbook of PowerPoint Slides on Your Desktop
If you have a few slides you refer to regularly from a given presentation, you can easily create a scrapbook of them on your desktop in three easy steps. First, simply select the slides you'd like to bring together from your presentation using the [Ctrl] key to choose them in your slide sorter pane. Next, drag them to your desktop. You'll notice a new file called Scrap is created which contains only the files you selected. You can rename the Scrap file if you wish, and now you can get to just the slides you need without having to open an entire presentation.

Hands-on Crafts
Students can try their skills at quilt designing, making pottery, weaving, or basketry...online. Two studios explore both fiber and clay arts; background information is included for each art.  http://www.handsoncrafts.org/001.htm

Excel Tip
When creating a chart, you don't need to confine yourself to Excel's built-in titles. You can replace those titles with free-floating text boxes that offer more formatting options. To add a free-floating text box to your chart, follow these steps:

Click anywhere within the chart except a chart title or data label.

  • In the formula bar, type the text you want to appear in the text box, and press [Enter]. A text box containing the text you entered will appear in the middle of the chart.
  • Move the text box to the desired position in the chart.
  • Double-click the text box to open the Format Text Box dialog box.
  • Add the desired formatting, and click OK.

In addition, you can also use the Drawing toolbar's functions to draw an arrow or a line from the text box to another data element in the chart.

Click & Type feature in Word
There's a feature in Word that allows you to double-click any blank space in your document to instantly create an insertion point. However, there's a catch to using this feature. If you're not able to Click and Type, then you are using Word's Normal view. For some reason, you can only click and type in Print Layout view or Web Layout view. Therefore, to use this feature, select View > Print Layout or View > Web Layout in the menu bar. If you still can't use Click and Type, go to Tools > Options, then click on the Edit tab in the Options dialogue box. Next, check Enable Click and Type (it's near the bottom), then click OK.

Civil War for Kids (Elementary)
The students in Mrs. Huber's class at Pocantico Hills School in Sleepy Hollow, NY learned about the Civil War and made a timeline of important events from 1860 to 1865. The bar graphs contain data about the North and the South in 1861. They looked at Civil War battle victories, used mapping skills to examine the nation in detail and made both Confederate and Union flags. They have drawings of uniforms, short biographies of leaders, links to other sites, and activity sheets.

Top Ten Viruses Found on CPSB Computers
Here are the top ten viruses found on CPSB computers in the past 7 days. The stats are based on 531 infected computers out of a total of 9315 OfficeScan clients.

The latest OfficeScan pattern as of 2-01-2005 is pattern 2.385.00. Please check your pattern by placing your cursor over the OfficeScan icon and viewing the pop-up window that appears. If your pattern is significantly LOWER than this (A HIGHER PATTERN NUMBER IS OK), please email tech.help@cpsb.org regarding this or any other question you have regarding OfficeScan.

The information shows the name of the virus, the number of infected files found, and the percentage of the virus from the total.  ALL school board employees need to ensure that their Dell, Compaq, HP, IBM or other PC classroom computers stay virus free. Go to the following link to download the district copy of OfficeScan: http://teacherlink.cpsb.org/officescan and your computer will automatically be updated daily to scan for the latest viruses. You must install the software using Internet Explorer 4.0 or later (Netscape will not work!!!!!) Please answer "Yes" to all prompts as the software installs. If you have any questions, please contact the CPSB Help Desk at tech.help@cpsb.org.
