Neptune’s Web
What is oceanography? Oceanography begins at every shoreline. It is the science of the oceans, their interaction with the atmosphere above and the seafloor sediments below, their chemical make-up, their biological contents, their physical properties and motion, their creation, their past history and development, their present state, and their future. Neptune's Web is a site designed to engage your students in the topic of Oceanography. It is a place to learn and challenge their knowledge of the oceans and its many mysteries. With this site it is “Full speed ahead!” http://pao.cnmoc.navy.mil/educate/neptune/neptune.htm

Trees are Terrific...Travels with Pierre
Let me introduce you to Pierre - a lively acorn who gives kids the low down on trees and why we need them. Young children, 5-8 years old (K-2) learn the parts of a tree, all about leaves and how trees change during the different seasons. It is a wonderful way for young students to learn about trees. (Also available in Spanish...) http://www.urbanext.uiuc.edu/trees1

Excel Tip
You can use Excel's COUNTIF function to compare the frequency of specific data in a field. For example, say you've set up a worksheet that tracks members' attendance at special events. This database contains the following fields: First Name, Last Name, Event, and Event Date. The Event field contains a code-name for each of the club's events (such as Golf for a golf outing, Picnic for the annual picnic, and Dance for the annual Christmas ball). To determine how many members attended each event, follow these steps:
  • Select the column that contains the Event data.
  • Click the Name box, type Data, and press [Enter].
  • Select a blank cell, click the Name box, type Event, and press [Enter].
  • Select another blank cell and enter the following formula: =COUNTIF(Data,Event)

To count the number of Golf Outing attendees, enter Golf in the Event cell. The COUNTIF function counts all of the occurrences of Golf in the Data range to return a total of all attendees to that event.

Save All Open Word Documents and Templates Simultaneously
We've all had the unfortunate experience of losing changes to a document because of a power surge or application error, and we all know that the key to minimizing damage from these events is to save frequently. When you're working in multiple Word documents at once, there's a fast way to save all the documents at the same time rather than manually saving each document. To save all of them at once, press and hold down [Shift], and then select File | Save All from the menu bar.

Spell Check All the Sheets in At Once in Excel
If a workbook contains several sheets, you probably spell check each sheet individually. However, if you'd like to spell check an entire workbook, first right-click on any sheet tab, and then choose Select All Sheets. Then, simply press F7 to launch the spell checker.  After spell check is complete REMEMBER to right-click on any sheet tab and then choose Ungroup Sheets.

Top Ten Viruses Found on CPSB Computers
Here are the top ten viruses found on CPSB computers in the past 7 days. The stats are based on 670 infected computers out of a total of 9475 OfficeScan clients.

The latest OfficeScan pattern as of 2-16-2005 is pattern 2.410.00. Please check your pattern by placing your cursor over the OfficeScan icon and viewing the pop-up window that appears. If your pattern is significantly LOWER than this (A HIGHER PATTERN NUMBER IS OK), please email tech.help@cpsb.org regarding this or any other question you have regarding OfficeScan.

The information shows the name of the virus, the number of infected files found, and the percentage of the virus from the total.  ALL school board employees need to ensure that their Dell, Compaq, HP, IBM or other PC classroom computers stay virus free. Go to the following link to download the district copy of OfficeScan: http://teacherlink.cpsb.org/officescan and your computer will automatically be updated daily to scan for the latest viruses. You must install the software using Internet Explorer 4.0 or later (Netscape will not work!!!!!) Please answer "Yes" to all prompts as the software installs. If you have any questions, please contact the CPSB Help Desk at tech.help@cpsb.org.
