Thought for the Week
Success seems to be connected with action.
Successful people keep moving.
They make mistakes, but they don't quit.

MSOCACHE Folder
Quite a few users have asked about a new hidden folder mysteriously appearing on their systems named "Msocache". It's related to Microsoft Office 2003 and contains the install source files from the Microsoft Office 2003 installation CD. This is known as a "Local Install Source" so that you do not have to insert the CD during subsequent setup or repair procedures. If you see this folder, do not delete it. For further question please email tech.help@cpsb.org.

PowerPoint Tip - Blackout
There are times when you are presenting a PowerPoint slideshow and need to "Blackout" the presentation. To black out your display while in the Slide Show view, press the "b" key on your keyboard. Press "b" again to show your display again. This is most useful when you are pausing to answer questions.

Uncover a Document's Formatting Styles and Hidden Characters
Have you ever wanted to develop a document or template around a design you've seen, but you weren't quite sure how to replicate the formatting? You can obtain formatting information by pressing "Shift"+"F1".  This combination attaches a question mark to your mouse pointer. When you click a section of text, Word 2000 opens a bubble that displays both the paragraph and font formatting applied to the text. To turn off this feature, press "Esc". (In Word XP, this combination opens the Reveal Formatting task pane.)   In addition to the applied font and paragraph formatting, there may still be some hidden characters that affect the look of a document. To display hidden characters such as extra line spaces, click the Show/Hide button on the Standard Toolbar.  Or you can go to Tools | Options and select the View tab. In the Nonprinting Characters section, select the check boxes of the characters you want to see. (In Word XP, you'll find this under the Formatting Marks section.)

Create Logs Easily with Notepad
Notepad is the Windows text file editor, and is generally thought of as an application with limited capabilities. But one practical use for Notepad is logging. To create a log in Notepad that will time and date stamp your entries automatically type .LOG as the first line in a text file. Every time you open that file with Notepad, the program will automatically add the time and date to the bottom of the file. (Note that the word LOG must be in uppercase letters.)

Quick Change Your Outlook Calendar View
Did you know you can use a keyboard shortcut to modify the number of days visible in your Outlook calendar? Just press "ALT" and any number between one and 10. The number determines how many days will be displayed, starting from the current date. So, for instance, to see an eight-day span, just press ALT+8.  Note: For this tip to work, you must use the number keys on the keyboard, not the numeric keypad.

If you use Slide View to edit your presentation, there are a number of ways to navigate through your slides. You can move forward or back one slide at a time by clicking the Previous Slide and Next Slide buttons on the vertical scroll bar. You can also drag the scroll bar up or down to navigate more quickly, or use the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys. If there's important information at the beginning or end of your show, you can use "Ctrl"+"Home" to jump to the first slide or "Ctrl"+"End" to jump to the last slide.

The latest OfficeScan pattern as of 3-15-2005 is pattern 2.494.00. Please check your pattern by placing your cursor over the OfficeScan icon and viewing the pop-up window that appears.
