Trend Micro Interface Change
|
Just
like any software in the technical world, changes do come
along. Trend Micro (OfficeScan) has changed its interface.
This does not mean that you need to uninstall the OfficeScan
client that you already have. If you have OfficeScan
installed, leave it as it is. The new updates are being sent
down from the network so your computer will update itself as
long as you have OfficeScan installed.
Here is what you need to
know:
- If you need to install
the OfficeScan client, the location to install the
program has not changed:
http://help.cpsb.org
and click on Anti Virus. Look for the box labeled
"Install OfficeScan Client" and click the "Click here"
link to start installing the OfficeScan client to your
computer.
- When you put your
mouse over the OfficeScan icon (located in your system
tray next to your clock) you will notice a change in the
numbers displayed. The pattern number will be that last
number on the first line. The most current pattern
number will be reported in each week's Tech Connect
Newsletter or you can find it at
www.trendmicro.com.
Be sure to check this number to ensure you have the
latest pattern.
- The process to run a
full scan of your hard drive has not changed.

New Service Announced - Destiny Online!
|
We
are proud to introduce to the district the new web-based
library service called Destiny Online. Destiny Online is a
central web-based application that allows the entire
district to access any library collection from any computer
that has an Internet browser. From the CPSB homepage, you
can access this service under "CPSB Intranet" then "Destiny"
and click on "Destiny Online" or reach it directly at:
http://destiny.cpsb.org.
The main page lists all the schools in the district.
Clicking on the link to one school allows you the ability to
search the collection of that library. This software also
correlates the collection to Accelerated Reader books within
the collection to better aid the students in book selection
for Accelerated Reader reading levels. This service is only
available if you are inside the district using a CPSB
connected computer The completion of this project brings all
the district library resources together to teach our
students of this parish. Congratulations to the Library
Services and Technology Department for a very successful
collaborative implementation! This service brings
the district together to teach our students of this parish.

PowerPoint Tip - Launching your Slide Show
|
Have
you ever attended a presentation where the speaker fumbled
through PowerPoint, trying to get the presentation started?
The speaker starts PowerPoint, searches for the file (often
wandering through several folders), opens the file, and
finally starts the slide show. Talk about looking like an
amateur! There's a much easier way. Place your PowerPoint
slide in an easy-to-remember, easy-to-find folder. Then from
within any file manager (Windows Explorer for example),
right-click on the file name (the one with the .PPT file
extension) and choose Show (the command should be near the
top ). Windows launches PowerPoint and opens the
presentation to the first slide in Slide Show mode. Using
this technique you'll certainly make a better first
impression. |

Microsoft Word Tip - Assigning Shortcuts
|
Did
you know that you could assign a shortcut key to symbols or
special symbols that you use often? If you want to assign a
CTRL, ALT, or a function key to a symbol, use the following
steps: Begin shortcut key combinations with CTRL, ALT,
or a function key.
- On the "Insert" menu,
click "Symbol".
- Click the tab with the
symbol or character (character: A letter, number,
punctuation mark, or symbol.) you want. Note: If you don't
see the symbol you want, in the drop-down menus, click a
different font or subset.
- Click the symbol or
character you want.
- Click the "Shortcut Key"
button.
- In the "Press new shortcut
key box", press the key combination you want to use. For
example, press ALT+ the desired key.
- Look at "Currently
assigned" to to see if the shortcut key combination is
already assigned to a command or other item.
- Reassigning a key
combination means that you can no longer use the combination
for its original purpose. For example, pressing CTRL+B
changes selected text to bold. If you reassign CTRL+B to a
new command or other item, you will not be able to bold text
by pressing CTRL+B unless you restore the shortcut key
assignments to their original settings.
- Once you decide on the
shortcut key combination, click "Assign".

PowerPoint Tip - Taking notes
|
When
presenting an information slide show, many times you provide
handouts for note-taking. While you can print hand-outs in
PowerPoint, there's another option. Export your
handouts to Word, which gives you better control over the
formatting and design. To do this, open the PowerPoint
presentation for which you want to create handouts, then
click File > Send To > Microsoft Office Word. Select the
page layout for your notes (Blank lines next to slides works
best for note-taking). Then click OK. Word will launch,
showing your slides in tables, which you can edit and print.

Picasa - A Free Software Download from Google
|
Picasa
is software that helps you instantly find, edit and share
all the pictures on your PC. Every time you open Picasa, it
automatically locates all your pictures (even ones you
forgot you had) and sorts them into visual albums organized
by date with folder names you will recognize. You can drag
and drop to arrange your albums and make labels to create
new groups. Picasa makes sure your pictures are always
organized.

Excel Tip: Find a value in a Data Range with an Array
Formula
|
You
can use Excel's built-in Find feature to determine whether a
specific value appears in a range of cells. But this isn't
your only option; you can also use an array formula. For
example, let's say you have a spreadsheet that lists names,
addresses, and phone numbers in the range A3:H110. You've
named this range Customers, and you use cell B1 (named
NamedEntry) to enter the name you wish to verify. Follow
these steps:
- In C1, enter this
formula: =IF(OR(NamedEntry=Customers),"Found","Not
Found")
- Press
[Ctrl][Shift][Enter]
If you enter "Mary" in B1,
the formula compares the value Mary to each cell in the
Customers range. If there is a match, the formula displays
Found in C1; if there is no match, it displays Not Found. |
