DATE, TIME, PLACE OF MEETING

 

The Calcasieu Parish School Board met in the Conference Room of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, located at 1732 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Tuesday, August 7, 2007, at 4:45 p.m. The meeting was called to order by Bryan LaRocque, President. The prayer was led by Elray Victorian; the pledge was led by Bryan LaRocque.

 

ROLL CALL

 

The roll was called and all members were present: Joe Andrepont, Annette Ballard, Dale Bernard, Billy Breaux, Randy Burleigh, Mack Dellafosse, Clara Duhon, Chad Guidry, Fred Hardy, Bill Jongbloed, James Karr, Bryan LaRocque, Jimmy Pitre, Elray Victorian, and R.L. Webb.

 

MINUTES APPROVED

 

On a motion by Mr. Karr and seconded by Mr. Dellafosse, the Minutes of July 10, 2007 were approved. On a vote to accept, Mrs. Duhon voted nay, stating that she was not present at the previous meeting and did not approve of what transpired.

 

SUPPLEMENTAL AGENDA

 

On a motion by Mr. Andrepont and seconded by Mr. Guidry, the Supplemental Agenda was included as part of the regular agenda.

 

Replacement pages for the resolutions calling for elections for the sale of bonds in District 23 and District 30 were accepted on a motion by Mr. Bernard and seconded by Mrs. Ballard.

 

PRESENTATIONS

 

Tara Owens, Walmart Teacher of the Year, St. John Elementary School

 

Sabrah Kingham, Principal of St. John Elementary School, introduced Tara Owens, Walmart Teacher of the Year. Colin Buller and Chris Peshoff of Walmart presented $1000 to the school and a $100 gift card for her to use in her own classroom.

 

DeQuincy High School Beta Club Winners

 

Craig Neal, Principal of DeQuincy High School, introduced Melonee Cooper. Mrs. Cooper is the Beta Club Coach and Music Teacher. She introduced the three students that won the national honors:

Taylor Hall

Sally Whitman

 

These students entertained the Board with a song, Through the Fire.

 

A+Pel Presentation

 

Mary Ann Wallace, President of A+Pel, thanked the Board for the recent pay raise and presented them with a cup of candy.

 

PERSONNEL PACKET/EXECUTIVE SESSION

 

On a motion by Mr. Victorian and seconded by Mr. Hardy, the Board went into Executive Session at 5:00 p.m. The Board resumed Regular Session at 5:35 p.m.

 

Personnel

 

Linda LeBlanc, Personnel Supervisor/Elementary Schools, requested a motion supporting the recommendations as listed in the personnel packet. On a motion by Mr. Karr and seconded by Mr. Webb, the motion carried.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion supporting the recommendation of Charles Adkins as Director of the Lake Charles Boston Academy of Learning. On a motion to accept by Mr. Bernard and seconded by Mrs. Ballard, the motion carried. Mr. Breaux and Mrs. Duhon voted nay. Mrs. Duhon stated that she had not received a list of the applicants for the position. Mr. Andrepont said

this was as far as he was willing to go with moving forward with the Academy, even though he is in strong support of expanding the vocational education side. He feels that there are a lot of issues for discussion.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion supporting the recommendation of Tama Ray as acting Assistant Principal of J. I. Watson Middle School. On a motion by Mr. Webb and seconded by Mr. Dellafosse, the motion carried.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion supporting the recommendation of Carol Shelton as Assistant Principal of DeQuincy Elementary School. On a motion by Mr. Karr and seconded by Mr. Burleigh, the motion carried.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion supporting the recommendation of Samuel Baynes as Assistant Principal of F .K. White Middle School. On a motion by Mr. Victorian and seconded by Mr. Bernard, the motion carried.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion supporting the recommendation of Brandon North as Head Coach at Maplewood Middle School. On a motion by Mr. Breaux and seconded by Mr. Burleigh, the motion carried.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion supporting the recommendation of Chad Hebert as Head Coach at J. I. Watson Middle School. On a motion by Mr. Webb and seconded by Mr. Hardy, the motion carried.

 

Mrs. LeBlanc requested a motion for permission to advertise for the position of Principal of Barbe High School. On a motion by Mr. Bernard and seconded by Mr. Jongbloed, the motion carried.
