Sixteen T.S. Cooley chess club members recently competed at the Houston Open Chess Tournament. The K-2nd grade team won 1st place and was co-champion and the 3rd – 5th team won 1st place and was champion! Click on READ FULL STORY for individual results and team pictures.
5th graders Annabelle T. and Bailey W. recently competed at District 4-H. Annabelle won 1st Place in Elementary Sugar Cookery - Baked Items, 2nd Place in Elementary - General Public Speaking, 2nd Place in Elementary - Consumer Foods Judging and Honorable Mention in Elementary - Consumer Decision Making. Bailey won 1st Place in Elementary - Consumer Food Judging, 3rd Place in Elementary - Consumer Decision Making and 3rd Place in Elementary - General Public Speaking.
T.S. Cooley students and faculty would like to thank the Grandparents who generously contributed to the Statue for the Legacy Rock Garden. Each year our 5th grade students will design a rock to be left in the garden to mark their time at Cooley. Please stop in the court yard on your next visit to view the Legacy Garden.
Bailey D., Sara H., and Sydney L. were honored Thursday, November 6, 2014 with a special presentation and reception at Central School for the individual art they created at the Calcasieu Parish School Board Summer Arts Camp held at Lake Charles Boston Academy every June. Each was presented with a Mayor’s Choice certificate and gift of art supplies by Mayor Randy Roach. The juried art exhibit will remain on display at Central School in the Art Associates Gallery now through November 19, 2014. The gallery hours are Mon.- Fri., 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
It is no secret that T.S. Cooley students love to read, so we are proud to announce the overall winners of the Rowdy Readers Program. The highest reading classroom was Mrs. Babaz's 4th grade class. There were 14 students that participated in her room and they read a total of 30,346 pages. The total number of pages read for all participants in the school was 168,897. The overall winners in each grade were: Kindergarten - Jordan W. (2239 pages read); 1st Grade - C.J. B. (3356 pages read); 2nd Grade - Jake S. (3373 pages read); 3rd Grade - Christina B. (4832 pages read); 4th Grade - Jax C. (7588 pages read); and 5th Grade - Darren M. (4236 pages read). All 124 students that participated will receive a MSU bookmark and a free ticket to the MSU Cowboy football game on November 22nd.
Mrs. Shonda Manual, Co-Creative Director at Healthy Image Marketing, has been teaching 5th grade students advertising skills during their library time. After learning basic ad designs and techniques, the fifth graders paired off and designed advertisements for the LA Young Reader Book Award books. Guest judge, Barbara VanGossen, Creative Director of Healthy Image Marketing, had the difficult task of choosing the top three ads in each class and an overall winner, as all were T.S. Cooley " top quality". The Overall Winners are Braidy P. and Mason R. in Ms. Coyne's class. They designed an advertisement for the book Pickle.
