Emily Williams (Vincent Settlement Elementary School) and Kia White (Ray D. Molo Middle School) were named the state's elementary and middle school counselors of the year by the Louisiana School Counselor Association. Congratulations to Emily and Kia!
The Recording Academy and GRAMMY Foundation named Mickey Smith, Maplewood Middle School band director, as one of the 25 semifinalists for the Music Educator Award, which recognizes teachers from kindergarten to college “who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music education in the schools.”

Three Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB) high school seniors have been named semifinalists in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.
New state law prohibits the use of cellphones (wireless telecommunication devices) while operating a motor vehicle in active school zones. Prohibited use includes engaging in a call; writing, sending or reading a text-based communication; or accessing, reading or posting to a social networking site. Please take notice of the new “Hands-Free Zone” signs in school zones, and please continue to exercise caution while traveling through school zones.
Elementary ELA Unit 2 book sets are now on display for review at the CPSB central office located at 3310 Broad Street, Lake Charles. The public is welcome to read the books on-site and leave comments for the district’s curriculum team to review. Unit 3 will be on display in the coming weeks, with unit 4 to follow.
