Enhancing Content Literacy Through Technology
presented by Julie Rexford, Harry Hurst Middle School
Description:  Integration of technology in the classroom helps to further differentiate instruction to meet the needs of various students. Alternative forms of assessment allow students to use various learning styles to communicate understanding and mastery of various skills. Struggling readers and dyslexic students are able to communicate in a verbal or visual manner versus a traditional pen and paper format. Through the availability of podcasts, blogs and iTouches, students are allowed access to communicate mastery beyond the traditional pen and paper method. In addition, technology allows students alternative ways to interact with the content outside of the textbook. Visual and auditory learners are allowed access to information and knowledge that otherwise may have been a struggle to comprehend. During this session, we will explore various forms of technology and how they can be used to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of the individual learner and in turn increase content literacy.
