Beginning Stage

As students progress through the beginning stage of the second language learning continuum in Grade 4, they will demonstrate beginning level proficiencies as described by the benchmarks for this stage by completing activities related to the following themes while using certain linguistic concepts as listed below. They will demonstrate progress at the novice-low range of the ACTFL proficiency guidelines. Below are the Themes, Linguistic Concepts,Context, Text Type and Accuracyexpectations of students for this grade level. Students will be able to use Spanish when
Speaking face-to-face with someone,
Listening to someone or to audio or video texts,

Text Type: 
Text type: Students will use Spanish to
Say and write short sentences, using learned expressions, simple questions, and commands,
Listen to and understand ideas and familiar details presented in clear and uncomplicated speech, and
Read and understand short texts which are enhanced by visual clues.

Accuracy: 
Precision in the students' ability to communicate in Spanish as related to grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary will reflect
Hesitation and errors which do not hinder comprehension and
Understanding of the most important information in a spoken or written message.
