PROCESS

STEP ONE
Group Briefing:

Before we look to the future, let’s explore and discuss recent inventions (inspiration) to help establish our purpose.

STEP TWO
Training Session 1:
What is a simple machine?  And, what do simple machines have to do with inventions?
Watch this
United Streaming clip to answer these questions.  When your group is finished, post your answers to these questions to our Simple Machines Discussion Board in Blackboard  Remember to post your response under your group’s number.

 STEP THREE
Training Session 2:
Let’s explore six simple machines!  Each group will become an expert on one of the six simple machines.  Navigate through the sites that illustrate and explain your group’s assigned simple machine.  When you are finished exploring, create a Jot Log entry using a Palm handheld that gives a definition and drawing of your machine.  Use the Jot Log Rubric to guide your group’s work.

STEP FOUR
Training Session 3:

It’s time for the experts to share their knowledge.  Groups will share their Jot Log entry so that all apprentice inventors will be “in the know”.  Again, use the Jot Log Rubric to guide your presentation.

STEP FIVE
Training Session 4:

You have learned about how things work and six simple machines.  It’s time to practice what you know.  Work through the two activities to practice your simple machine/invention skills.

Practice 1 -

EdHeads Simple Machines
Click the link below and then click to start.  Go to the house and begin your practice session.  Select either the bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, or garage.

Time to Pass the Test:

You have completed all of your training sessions.  It is now time to become a bonified inventor.  The two links below will take you to your final assessment.  You will work through these alone.  Remember to follow directions and print out your results.  Turn this information in to get your official inventors license.
