What is the difference in the tests? |
-
The current standardized testing
program uses two types of
assessments: Norm-referenced tests (NRT)
and Criterion-referenced tests (CRT).
-
NRTs are used to compare Louisiana
students’ performance with the
performance of students at the same
grade level nationwide.
-
CRTs are used to measure student
knowledge of state content standards
and GLEs by grade level.
-
High stakes tests—LEAP and GEE tests
in grades 4, 8, 10, and 11 are used
to consider promotion to the next
grade level.
-
Preparation for high stakes tests is
ongoing throughout the grades. The
4th grade LEAP reflects skills
taught in grades K-4, 8th grade LEAP
reflects skills taught in grades
5-8, and 10th and 11th grade GEE
tests reflect skills taught in
grades 9-11.
-
The charts on the following pages
indicate the percentage of each
subtest or strand on the iLEAP,
LEAP, and GEE tests by grade level.
-
Note that percentages vary in each
subtest or strand from grade to
grade.
-
LEAP, GEE, and iLEAP tests do not
emphasize the same subtests or
strands. For example, the Reading
subtest on 4th grade LEAP is 55% but
only 31% of the 3rd grade iLEAP
test.
-
Knowing the test design will help
identify priority areas for testing.
-
Your child and the classroom teacher
used these charts for goal setting
in each grade.
