WHAT IS IT?

Brainstorming is a simple tool used to stimulate creativity and generate ideas. It allows each participant to state his opinions in a non-
threatening environment.  Quantity is more important than quality. It can be used at all levels, preschool to the executive.

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?

 

WHEN IS IT USED?
  • When one needs to unite a group with diverse ideas and needs
  • When a broad range of options is desired
  • When creative, original ideas are needed
  • When participation of the entire group is encouraged
  • When generating a list of possible problems, causes, or solutions

 

HOW IS IT MADE?
  1. Select a recorder and group facilitator.
  2. Generate ideas.
  3. Record the ideas, orally or in writing.

    Goals

    1. To generate a wide variety and extensive number of ideas
    2. To insure that everyone becomes involved in the process
    3. To insure that nothing is overlooked
    4. To create an atmosphere of creativity openness

    Rules

    1. No judgment (neither positive nor negative) allowed
    2. Equal opportunity to express ideas
    3. Quantity over quality
    4. Piggybacking or hitchhiking encouraged
