WHAT IS IT?

Data Binders/Folders serve as an organizational tool where the students graph things such as their grades, absences and behavior.  It can also be used to keep important papers like the student’s mission statement and goals. Data Folders are a key step in transferring ownership of the learning to the students.  They help transfer the concept of how the daily work of the student is related to the continuous learning process.  Data Folders serve as a communication tool to assist both students and parents in understanding how well the student is doing.

 

WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE?
  • These can come in the form of binders or as simple as pocket folders.
  • Contains a variety of Quality-related artifacts as well as work samples.

WHEN IS IT USED?
  • These are usually used on a daily basis and are often updated and expanded
  • It can be used to review a child's progress during a parent conference
  • Students should average grades and track personal progress at least weekly.
  • Data binders/folders are used to provide a visual display of progress toward a goal.
HOW IS IT MADE?
  1. So so simple!....Get either a binder or pocket folder...let your imagination run wild!
  2. Plan out the binder contents by dividing it into sections
    (Mission Statement | Goals | Work Samples | Etc.)
  3. Provide a separate page with a graph on it for each item to be tracked.
  4. When a student receives a grade, it should be plotted on the proper graph.
  5. Usually during the first week of school establish policies and procedures about how ystudents are to maintain these folders.
  6. Set a goal for each item tracked.
