Earlier in the year, students studied team sports and related vocabulary as well as summer sports and related vocabulary. This lesson is a culminating activity following the unit on winter sports. Students have assigned groups and assigned numbers within that group. They are experienced at beaming and syncing and are familiar with the Handheld applications Memos, Sketchy, and Voice Memo.

A Five Paragraph Essay That Anyone Can Write

Students will see how a well-written introductory paragraph can guide their writing for the rest of the essay. Five sentence introductory paragraphs will be written and edited in class, prior to this lesson. Students will use each of these sentences to write the rest of their essay. One goal of this lesson is to guide students successfully through a five paragraph essay so that they can feel assured that they can successfully write one, on their own, in the future.

Hopping with Polynomials begins with an introduction to systems of equations using a video, Power of Algebra-Polynomials and Equations, and ebook, Algebra I. During the poetry unit, students will analyze various poetic elements. In this brief lesson, students will be introduced to idioms and their use in literature, especially poetry. Students will define idiom, discuss the meanings of several idioms, and then illustrate their own idiom to share with the other students in the class who will analyze the meaning of the illustrated idiom.

After reading What’s the Big Idea, Ben Franklin?, a biography about Benjamin Franklin and all of his incredible inventions, students will think of an invention of their own. They are to go through the writing process with the ultimate product being a persuasive essay persuading others that their invention is needed. They will also create an illustration/advertisement to accompany the essay.

Investigating 'A Christmas Carol' and Ebenezer Scrooge

In this unit, students will research what life was like in Victorian England, read 'A Christmas Carol,' and then investigate the development of the character of Ebenezer Scrooge. This should take approximately ten - twelve 50-minute class periods, and would work well if begun immediately after Thanksgiving.

This lesson focuses on the family. Students are asked to identify members of their families giving pertinent information about them using PALM Camera, Contacts, and Sketchy applications and to share this information with other members of the class. They will also interview classmates about their respective families using the PALM beam capabilities and subsequently introduce another student's family to small groups.

In this lesson, the students will be placed into numbered groups. (Group size will depend upon the number of students in the class. You will want, if possible, to have eight groups.) Each group will use the Inspiration program to create a web of the first eight Constitutional Amendments. Each group will then use Memo, on the handheld, to write a short paragraph explaining an assigned Amendment. Each group will then Hot Sync the paragraph, in numerical order, on a specified computer. The finished product will then be printed for revisions and editing.

Sketching the Graph of an Equation

Word Machine

This is a spelling activity that challenges students to create as many new words as they can by using the letters from a word provided by the teacher.
