Overview
Students will use the “Let’s Go Fishing” curriculum to discuss food chains. This is a required curriculum for our parish sponsored by Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries. Students will use Inspiration on their palms to show food chain diagrams. Students will use Word Pad to write descriptions the Sketchy to draw a sample food chain.

Objectives
Students will identify producers and consumers in a food chain and show transfer of energy throughout the links of the chain.
Procedures
1. Introduce the materials from “Let’s Go Fishing.” 2. After completing book, students will travel to Cypress Bend for field trip sponsored by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. 3. Students will participate in stations sponsored by Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. These stations will include: • Fish identification • Boating safety • Fish habitats • Fishing 4. Students will be encouraged to ask appropriate questions and take notes. 5. The next day, students will review and discuss whole group the field trip and stations. They will connect the information from the “Let’s Go Fishing” book to the information discussed with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries personnel. 6. Students will use Inspiration software to show a food chain diagram. This will include any food chain previously discussed. 7. Students will write an explanation of their food chain diagram using Word Pad. 8. Students will use Sketchy to draw a sample of their food chain diagram. This can be simple or very creative, depending on student levels. They can use the “play animation” option to show food chain if they prefer. 9. Students will share diagrams, explanations, and drawings.
Assessment: Students will work with teacher in whole group to develop a “rubric before assignment starts. Teacher will guide students to include the following: • Title on all information • Predator, prey, sunlight relationship should be represented correctly • Labels of consumers or producers
