Overview
1. In this lesson, students work in pairs to find the latitude and longitude of various cities in the U.S.A. Students also use latitude and longitude to help them figure out the distance between two given coordinate points – their target city and Baton Rouge.

Objectives
·Students will learn the meaning of terms latitude and longitude.
·Students will be able find the latitude and longitude of various cities in the United States.
·Students will figure the distance between two locations by using latitude and longitude.
·Students will practice rounding numbers to the nearest hundredth.

Procedures
1.In this lesson, students work in pairs to find the latitude and longitude of various cities in the U.S.A. Students also use latitude and longitude to help them figure out the distance between two given coordinate points – their target city and Baton Rouge.
2.Explain “Latitude and Longitude” to students
3.Beam students City Zen. Let student experiment with City Zen, then proceed to explain the various functions that can be found in City Zen.
a.Click on Mode/Find
b.Hold the stylus down to see city name, latitude and longitude
c.To erase a name, click on it again
d.On Prefs, check Cities, Grid lines, Grid labels, Tool button
e.Under Special, you can Reset everything
4.Pair students and hand out latitude and longitude worksheet.
5.After assessing understanding, teacher beams student pairs Distance. Distance is an easy-to-understand application. Students complete the third section of the worksheet using Distance.
