A Five Paragraph Essay That Anyone Can Write

Overview
Students will see how a well-written introductory paragraph can guide their writing for the rest of the essay. Five sentence introductory paragraphs will be written and edited in class, prior to this lesson. Students will use each of these sentences to write the rest of their essay. One goal of this lesson is to guide students successfully through a five paragraph essay so that they can feel assured that they can successfully write one, on their own, in the future.

Objectives
1. TLW complete a five paragraph essay. 2. TLW send and receive information using computer and palms.
Procedures
1. The teacher will discuss the assigned writing prompt, along with directions for writing the introductory paragraph. 2. Introductory paragraphs will be edited and then typed on computers in Microsoft Word. 3. These paragraph will be sent to the Palms using “Word to Go” and students will sync to retrieve them. 4. Directions for the second paragraph will be beamed to each student. Students will complete it. 5. Directions for the third, fourth and concluding paragraphs will be sent as each one is completed. 6. Directions will be deleted so that the essay will stand on its own. 7. Students will hot sync to the computer and print out a copy of their five paragraph essay.
