"ABC Relay"

Overview
This lesson would be used at the end of an alphabetical order unit. Students would need to know how to alphabetize to the second letter. Students would need to be familiar with Word to Go. Students will need to know how to return and undo in Word.

Software
Word to Go

Technology
Computer to Sync Palm, printer, alphabet word cards, direction cards.

Objectives
TLW alphabetize a group of words to the second letter.
TLW work cooperatively in a group.
TLW utilize technology to enhance learning.

Procedures
1. Each group will be given a set of words cards turned face down. The students will place the words on the cards in alphabetical order utilizing their Palms.
2. Give each team a set of instructions.
3. Have students turn Palms on.
4. Open Word to Go.
5. Select a student in each group to begin list.
6. First student will select top card and type word. Save the document as color of group abc. (ex. redabc)
7. That student will beam the list to the student on his/her left.
8. Students will select a card and add new word in alphabetical order to the list.
9. Continue until all ten words are added to the list.
10. Last student will Sync Palm to the computer.
11. First team to print list in alphabetical order wins.

Alphabetical order quiz
Students will work independently to alphabetize a list of ten words.
1. Student will add his/her name.
2. Alphabetize word list from the left to the right column.
3. Change font color as words are used so students can see the words that are remaining.
4. Sync list to the computer.
5. Print & turn in for a grade.

Direction card
1. Turn on Palm.
2. Open Word to Go.
3. Choose top card and type word in ABC order. Save file ex. redabc.)
4. Beam word to the next player to your left.
5. Continue until all of the cards are used.
6. Sync to computer and print.
