Objectives
§ Content Standards Students communicate using standard English grammar, usage, sentence structure, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and handwriting. § Benchmarks ELA-3-E3 − demonstrating standard English structure and usage; ELA-3-E4 − using knowledge of the parts of speech to make choices for writing;
§1 Grade-Level Expectations (GLEs) NOTE: Only list GLEs for lessons with a primary subject area of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. 31. Write using standard English structure and usage, including: · avoiding run-on sentences · using verbs in the future tense · making subjects and verbs agree in sentences with simple and compound subjects and predicates (ELA-3-E3) 32. Apply knowledge of parts of speech in writing, including: · using standard future verb tenses · using a variety of conjunctions, such as although, since, until, and while, in constructing sentences · using correct forms of possessive pronouns, singular nouns, transitional words, and prepositions · identifying and using irregular plural nouns correctly · using first-, second-, and third-person pronouns correctly · selecting and using adverbs that modify according to time, place, manner, and degree · identifying and using irregular verb tenses (ELA-3-E4) Use technology tools (e.g., publishing, multimedia tools, and word processing software) for individual and for simple collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities for a variety of audiences. Procedures
Teacher will review parts of speech with students and assign each team member a specific part of speech to listen for during the story. Students will be instructed to write the words they hear for their category in the Notepad program on their handheld. Teacher will read Love You Forever by Robert Munsch as students listen for enjoyment first. Teacher will read the story again and students will make a list of their specific words. Students will then beam their list to each person on their team so that each students has a list of each part of speech. Students will create an interesting sentence related to the story using Memo program on handheld. Upon completion of one sentence, students will use Sketchy program to illustrate their sentence. Students will share their sentence and illustration with team using Round Robin.
