Overview
After reading a novel of their choice, students will complete a book log and story web based on their reading.

Objectives
The learner will: create a journal using Freewrite as they read a novel of their choice.

Procedures
1. Students will go to the library and select a novel to read. 2. The teacher will beam Bookslog to one student and the students will beam the program to each other. 3. The teacher will introduce and model how to use the BooksLog program with a book title familiar to the entire class. Demonstrate, using a Margi Presenter with projector, how to enter the data into the application. 4. Tell students that they will be required to keep a reading journal as they read their novels. Demonstrate to the students how to use Freewrite in order to create their reading journal. Beam Freewrite to one student and the students will beam the program to each other. Instruct students to keep a chapter journal of their novel. Each journal entry should contain the main ideas of the chapter. 5. Tell students that after they have completed reading their novel and their journal, they will complete a reading log using Bookslog. Students will also be asked to write a one sentence critique about the book. Students will beam their book log entry to the teacher and one other student. 6. Students will complete a story web of their novel using Inspiration. The web will contain the title of the book, setting, characters, conflict, and theme. Students will be asked to insert at least four graphics into their web. Students will print out their webs using PrintBoy software.
