DATE, TIME, PLACE OF MEETING

The Calcasieu Parish School Board met in the Conference Room of the Calcasieu Parish School Board located at 1732 Kirkman Street, Lake Charles, Louisiana, on Tuesday, September 13, 2005, 4:45 p.m.  The meeting was called to order by Joe Andrepont, President.  The prayer was led by Mr. LaRocque; Mr. Webb led the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL

The roll was called and the following members were present: 

Joe A. Andrepont, Billy Breaux, Clara F. Duhon, Jay L. Duhon,  John M. Falgout, Rev. J.L. Franklin, James W. Karr, Sr., Bryan LaRocque, Sheral A. LaVergne, James W. Pitre, Gregory P. Robert, Dr. Edward Stephens, Philip Tarver and R.L. Webb.

Dale B. Bernard entered the meeting after it convened.

Board Meeting Dates

Regular – October 4, November 1, December 13

On motion by Mr. Breaux, seconded by Mr. Duhon and carried, the Board meetings for October 4, November 1 and December 13, were approved.

Special – Thursday, September 15, 4:45, Student Hearing

Mrs. Duhon made a motion, seconded by Rev. Franklin, to approve the recommended special meeting for Thursday, September 15, 4:45.

After discussion, Mr. Tarver made a substitute motion, seconded by Mr. Duhon, to schedule the student hearing during the regular Board meeting on October 4, 4:45.  The motion carried with three nays by Mrs. Duhon, Rev. Franklin and Ms. LaVergne.

Mr. Bernard entered the meeting.

Superintendent Selection

Final Interview for the Position of Superintendent

Mr. Spruel reported that Mr. Christopher Hines made a formal withdrawal of his application.

The interview process began with Mr. Wayne Savoy followed by Dr. Ina Delahoussaye. Each candidate was granted a 45 minute interview period.  Questions were posed from the Board members with closing remarks by each applicant.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

On motion by Mr. Tarver, seconded by Mrs. Duhon and unanimously carried, the Board went into Executive Session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss personnel matters.  The Board resumed regular open session at 7:10 p.m.

President Andrepont declared Wayne Savoy as the newly elected Superintendent.  He appointed an ad hoc committee comprised of himself, Clara Duhon, James Pitre and Ed Stephens with the charge to negotiate the Superintendent’s contract.

On behalf of the Board, President Andrepont extended his appreciation to all of the candidates and thanked them for their interest in the position of Superintendent.  He also congratulated Mr. Savoy.

Mr. Savoy thanked the Board for their confidence and pledged his commitment to the Board, community and school system.

Meeting Adjourned

On motion by Mr. Breaux, seconded by Mrs. Duhon and unanimously carried, the meeting was adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
