Sylvan Dell Publishing Resource Grant - Cross-curricular learning

Eligibility:  One elementary school per district; open to every district in the United States

Award:  One-year site license (value $599) providing unlimited access to Sylvan Dell eBooks

Deadline:  Ongoing

This grant is for a free, one-year (school year 2008/2009), site license (value $599) providing unlimited access to all 35 (soon to be 45) Sylvan Dell eBooks, featuring flipviewer technology with selectable English and Spanish text and audio. The license can be used on all school computers and may be placed on secure school websites, enabling students and their families to login and have access from their homes. All that is needed is broadband internet access. The eBooks will display with Windows or Mac operating systems and do not require special software, plug-ins or eBook reading devices.

Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries - Gulf Coast School Library Recovery  Initiative

Eligibility: Schools affected by the 2005 Hurricanes or schools that are being built in the areas affected by the 2005 hurricanes

Awards:  Amount varies

 Many schools in the Gulf Coast region were destroyed or severely damaged by the 2005 hurricanes, and part of the destruction was the loss of the schools’ libraries.  As a response to Mrs. Bush’s concern for the students of these affected schools, the Laura Bush Foundation established a special fund to help re-establish the book collections for the school libraries. Student Achievement Grants - Improvement of academic achievement in any subject area

Eligibility:  Applicants must be practicing U.S public school teachers in grades PreK–12, public school education support professionals, or faculty or staff at public higher education institutions

Deadline:  Applications are accepted at any time and are reviewed three times a year; the next deadline for review is February 1, 2009 for notification by April 15, 2009.

Awards:  $5,000

The NEA Foundation provides grants to improve the academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher education institutions in any subject area(s). The proposed work should engage students in critical thinking and problem solving that deepen their knowledge of standards-based subject matter. The work should also improve students’ habits of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection. Proposals for work resulting in low-income and minority student success with honors, advanced placement, or other challenging curricula are particularly encouraged.  For information on submission timelines, grant restrictions, and application instructions, visit the NEA Foundation website.
 

Matching Book Grant - Classroom Libraries

Eligibility:  Elementary Teachers/Librarians

Deadline:  November 30, 2008 (EXTENSION)

Awards:  Matching awards of  up to $20,000

The Literacy Empowerment Foundation (LEF) has increased the size of the matching grants available to $20,000.00 per school. A school can now order $40,000.00 worth of books and pay only $20,000.00. (Any amount purchased from $100.00 to $20,000.00 will be matched.) The Matching Book Grant Program offers Guided Reading and Independent Reading Collections. Guided Reading Collections consist of 6 copies each of 18 titles. Independent Reading Collections consist of one copy each of 108 titles. With each set of Guided Reading and/or Independent Reading Collections purchased at the regular price, an additional set of your choice will be included free of charge.  No special screening or application required; click here for a list of collections and an online order form.
