Excellence Fair |

National
School Board Association's School Technology Excellence Fair
- October
2000 - Denver, Colorado
Calcasieu
Parish was chosen as a Salute District in 1991 by the National
School Board Association. For the past two years, Calcasieu
has participated in the Excellence Fair to promote and disseminate
information about district- and region-wide technology initiatives
that demonstrate Calcasieu's commitment to technology and curriculum
improvement. This year, the exhibit was two-fold. The
first component focused on standards, technology, and curriculum,
"S.T.A.C. for Success." Calcasieu Parish's
Technology Department members explained and demonstrated
products from four major programs that targeted classroom teachers
and contributed to the parish's success. Those programs included:
- Classroom-based
Technology Fund (CBTF) Program
- Louisiana
Challenge Grant Program
- Region
V - B.U.I.L.T.
for the Bayou TLCF Professional Development Project
- Tech
Contact Program
The
district messaging system, via intranet and Internet, the district
website, Tech Connect and the database of lesson plans were
also shared with conference attendees.
The
second component of the exhibit focused on the administrative strand
of professional development. Through the "Laptops for
Leadership" program, Calcasieu Parish has developed 30
hours of curriculum-based technology training for principals and
assistant principals. Technology planning, assessment of
effective technology integration, and classroom observations were
the three main focuses highlighted for conference attendees.
Tech
Center staff members in attendance were, from left to right:
Diane Mason, Felicia Coleman, Sheryl Abshire, Lisa Mullett & Kim

Preventative
Maintenance for Your PC |
|
|
| |
To
keep your computer running well, it is a good idea to do a little
preventative
maintenance about once a month. One of the things that you can
do is to defragment your hard drive. This cleans up the space
on your hard drive and makes your computer run better. You do this
by clicking on Start and to Programs, then Accessories, then
choose System Tools and Disk Defragmenter. Depending on how often
you do this and how much you use your computer, it can take quite
some time to run so it is a good idea to start it running before you
leave for the day and it will be done and ready to use the next
morning.
