Part Five of Flipchart Fundamentals (Step 6 in a Series of 6)
For the past five weeks, we have been covering the fundamentals of building effective flipcharts using ActivInspire. The five steps included using proven learning strategies, maximizing student participation, with experience comes confidence, take advantage of what you know and sharpen your skills.
The sixth and final step is “share ideas and lessons with others." Perhaps the greatest resources for creating top notch flipcharts are your colleagues. Several schools, via their network servers, create a school wide "drop box" where teachers can place flipchart lessons for mass consumption. Divide and conquer is their motto, and teachers are able to share the load when it comes to lesson planning. In doing so, they also tend to learn new techniques, master new Activ software tools and develop consistent, proven methods for lesson construction and delivery.Be sure to log into Promethean Planet and check out the Teacher Feature section of Promethean Planet for great examples of lessons and videos showing award winning teachers in action. If you don’t already have an account for Promethean Planet, you need to create one. The account is free and allows access to flipcharts, resources, ACTIVtips, and more. Nominate Your Librarian
The American Library Association (ALA), along with Carnegie Corporation of New York and The New York Times, is taking nominations for favorite librarian awards. The I Love My Librarian 2009 Award gives people the chance to spotlight the librarians that make a difference, whether in a public, school, or college/university library. Up to 10 librarians will be honored with the award, which consists of $5,000 and recognition at the awards ceremony hosted by the Times at TheTimesCenter in December 2009.
The nomination form is available online: http://www.ilovelibraries.org/lovemylibrarian/home.cfm. There are three categories in which to nominate, including K-12 school library media specialist. Nominators for this category must be students, teachers, parents, administrators or other users of the school library. The deadline for nominations is October 9, 2009. Winners will be announced in early November.
Take Advantage Of Bing’s Explorer Pane
After you initiate a search operation, be sure to investigate the Explorer pane on the left side of the window for ways to refine your search. Depending on how broad your search term is, you’ll find the Quick Tabs section at the top of the Explorer pane, which automatically arranges the search results in the most common categories according to that topic — kind of like a table of contents. If you scroll down the page, you’ll also discover that the displayed results are arranged according to the categories in the Quick Tabs section. Also in the Explorer pane you’ll find a Related Searches section, which provides you with alternative, yet related searches. The Explorer pane also contains your Search History, making it easy to quickly return to a previous search. Check it out at http://www.bing.com/.

Print Two Pages On A Single Sheet In Word 2007
Have you ever wanted to make Word print on two pages so you could make a little pamphlet or simply save on paper when your students do short writings or projects? Well, here's how:
1. Start Microsoft Word, and open a blank document.
2. To set up Word so that it will print two pages on a single sheet, select Page Setup from the Page Layout tab menu.
3. In the Page Setup dialog box, on the Margins tab, select 2 pages per sheet in the Multiple pages box. Click OK.
*Note: Your document will multiply in pages because each regular page takes up only half of a sheet of paper. Make sure you are working in Print Layout view so that you can see each of the physical pages while you are working. To do this, select Print Layout from the View tab. Keep in mind that every two pages of text will print on a single sheet of paper.
4. Type your text on each small sheet of paper. If you are typing short poems or short stories, try to fit them on each small section.
5. To see how the final version will look when you print it, select Print Preview from the Microsoft Office button. When you are ready, print the document. You will most likely cut the pages in half so that you can put the small booklet together.
Animate With Or Without Skills
Pivot Stickfigure Animator is a software application that allows you to create stick figure animations easily and without any artistic skills. You can move the sections of the stick figure and easily create a chain of animation frames that can be previewed as you go. You can use more than one stick-figure in the animation, and even create your own stick figures using an easy to use visual editor that lets you assemble objects out of lines and circles. You can optionally set animation size, speed and more. The result can be saved as animated GIF file. The URL: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/stickfigure.html
