Procedure for Uploading a School Web Site

Follow these procedures to publish your website using FrontPage:

1.   Get a copy of your web site from the server by doing:

  • START|RUN and type //web1/schools

  • Locate your school's folder and drag a copy of your school’s web folder to your desktop (This will give you  the latest copy.)  Always use this web folder on your desktop to make all changes.

  • This folder will include all school files and all teacher folders.  If teachers are maintaining their own site, you may want to remove those folders from the folder on your hard drive.

  • NOTE:  Teachers will follow this same procedure for getting a copy of their site on their desktop.  The only difference is that they will drag a copy of their folder NOT the school folder.

2.   To upload your site using FrontPage:

  • Open FrontPage

  • FILE|OPEN WEB

  • Browse to your school’s web folder on your desktop

  • Make any changes or updates needed

  • Click FILE|PUBLISH WEB

  • For Publish Destination, enter http://schoolname.cpsb.org where “schoolname” is the name of your school’s web folder.  (Ex. LaGrange High would enter http://lagrange.cpsb.org)

  • Click Publish

*If you are using FrontPage to publish, you can upload your web site from any Internet connected computer…yes, even “from home”…

  • NOTE:  Teachers will follow this same procedure for Publishing their individual sites.  The only difference is that they will enter their web site's URL for "Publish Destination"
    (Ex.  http://schoolname.cpsb.org/firstname.lastname)

NOTE:  If you haven't yet set up teachers to maintain their own site, you can find the procedure for adding teacher permissions in the "Webmaster Resources” located at: www.cpsb.org/webmasters.
