Windows 10 Upgrade Troubleshooting

On December 1st, 2019, Windows 7 computers will no longer function on the CPSB Network. This means that all computers eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade need to be upgraded as soon as possible. The instructions to upgrade can be found here. If an error occurs during the upgrade, which could happen if there are internet connectivity issues, here are the steps to take before trying again:

1. Ensure that the computer is hardwired to the internet and to a power cable.
2. Open Software Center and check for Updates. To do so, type Software Center in the Windows search box to locate and open it. Click on Updates. If there are updates, click the Install All button. Many of these updates will require restarting the computer to complete the installation.
3. Leave the computer powered on and hardwired for a few hours. This will also help along with the update process. Sometimes the computer will take days to install all necessary updates.

If you have any questions regarding the Windows 10 upgrade, visit the CPSB Windows 10 web page or contact Tech Support at 217-4357.

Use Microsoft Edge Browser to Have Web Content Read Aloud

Microsoft's Edge browser includes several free learning tools that are ideal for educators. These tools implement proven techniques to improve reading and writing for learners regardless of their age or ability.

One of the tools included is Read aloud. This feature enables users to have content on compatible websites read aloud in different voices and varying speeds. Try it yourself by following these steps:

1. Open the Edge browser.
2. Go to the Office 365 website either by typing in www.office.com or by using the shortcut button to Office 365 found on the CPSB home page.
3. In the upper right of the Edge browser window in the toolbar, click ... and select Read aloud. Compatible web pages will be read aloud and highlighted as the text is read.
4. Click on the person icon to change the voice and/or the speed. Click the pause button to pause or the blue X to stop reading aloud.
