SJ Welsh Middle
SJ Welsh Middle School was built in 1960 on fourteen acres of vacant fields. Since then, the school has grown from 280 students to just over 1,350 students enrolled in 2019. This year's Technology Showcase features classrooms where teachers are integrating technology to support the needs of their learners. Lunch is provided for registered attendees, courtesy of Lake Charles Toyota. Several core subject area classrooms are featured on the tour, each demonstrating how technology supports the curriculum. Participants have an opportunity to see the Girls Who Game Club in action. Girls Who Game partners with mentors from Dell and Microsoft who promote skills related to careers in STEM like coding and game development. Club sponsors at SJ Welsh are Mitzi Vincent, 6th Grade Science Teacher, and Holly Doga, CPSB Technology Facilitator. Additionally, for the showcase, students are demonstrating how robotics and coding have been integrated to support the 6th Grade Science Curriculum in Mrs. Vincent's classroom.
