Toshiba America Foundation
Grants for K-12

Toshiba America Foundation (TAF) grants fund the project ideas and materials teachers need to innovate in their science, technology, engineering, and math classrooms. TAF is interested in funding innovative projects designed by teachers or small teams of teachers for use in their own schools and classroom. Founded in 1990, with support from Toshiba Corporation and the Toshiba America Group Companies, Toshiba America Foundation (TAF) is dedicated to helping classroom teachers make STEM learning fun and successful for students in U.S. schools. An application form is required. TAF uses two application forms: one is an elementary school application (Grades K-5), and one is a middle and high school application (Grades 6-12) Grade K-5 applications are accepted once a year on October 1st. Application deadlines for grade 6-12 for up to $5,000 are 6/1, 9/1, 12/1, 3/1. Grant requests of more than $5,000 are reviewed twice a year. Applications for grants of more than $5,000 are due November 1st and May 1st each year. Applications must be for project-based learning.

Back-Up Your Data with OneDrive

If you don’t back up your files, you should expect to lose them. While it may sound harsh, the reality is that there are lots of reasons for a computer to experience data loss. Component failures, malware, and accidental deletions are all frequent occurrences that put data in danger. To minimize the damage that could be caused by these situations, it's best to develop a backup routine. With Office 365, nearly every employee has 1TB of OneDrive storage available to them for backing up files. This provides much more space than most computers in the district can store. Once stored in OneDrive, not only is your data backed up, it's available from any device, anywhere, at any time. Visit this Microsoft Turn on OneDrive PC Folder Backup page to learn how to protect your data. If you need help backing up your files or would just like someone to check to make sure you have everything properly set up, you can always submit a ticket at https://footprints.cpsb.org.  Feel free to contact Tech Support at 217-HELP (4357) for assistance.

What to Do When There Are No
Logon Servers Available

If you try to log onto a CPSB computer and you get this message, "There are no logon servers currently available to service the logon request." follow these directions. First, ensure that a network ethernet cable (usually blue) is securely connected to a working network drop and the computer/laptop. If a laptop, you will still need to do this just this time. Once you've successfully logged in, you should be able to remove the cable and use the laptop wirelessly.

If you are still having trouble, try a different network cable or a different wall drop. Having the network cable plugged into a phone or a switch/hub/router can also cause connection issues. You may have better luck if you plug the cable directly into the wall drop. As always, please put in a ticket at https://footprints.cpsb.org if these tips don't resolve your issue. Feel free to contact Tech Support at 217-HELP (4357) for assistance.

Blackboard Announcement Email Feature & BB 201 Starts TODAY!

Did you know that when you create a new announcement on Blackboard it sends an email to all students that are enrolled in your course? That means all of your past students who may still be enrolled in your course are getting your announcements. This is one reason it is important to remove students from your course/website at the end of the course or school year. Here are the steps to remove students from your class:

1. Sign-in and go to your Blackboard Course/Website.
2. Go to the Control Panel, select Users and Groups, then Users.
3. Click the box next to usernames of those students no longer in your class.
4. Click Remove Users From Class.
5. Click Ok to confirm the removal of users.

If you have not yet taken Blackboard 201 which provides you with rights to enroll students in your Blackboard course giving you the ability to facilitate interactive features like discussion boards, quizzes, and more, the opening webinar to the 3-week online-only course is today, March 5th at 3:30 PM-4:30 PM. It's not too late to register in Tech Classes! Sign-up in GoToWebinar to receive an email with a link to click to join the webinar once it starts. If you have any questions, please contact ashley,guillory@cpsb.org.
