Ensuring Virtual Class Meetings

are Supervised

Just as in face-to-face learning environments, students in virtual environments need supervision. When using Teams Meetings, once a meeting is scheduled, go to the calendar, and select to edit the meeting. Then, click Meeting options and choose Who can bypass the lobby. Select Only you to limit access to the meeting before you arrive. When the session ends, select End Meeting rather than Leave Meeting to close the session and prevent access by anyone.

If using Blackboard Collaborate, be sure your course room is locked. When unlocked, any student that is enrolled in your course can join the session at any time. Teachers do not have to be present for students to join the room. Schedule sessions at designated times and ensure that you are present when they begin. When the session is over, dismiss remaining students so they cannot return to the session and then end the session. Changing the time does not dismiss students that are still in the session. Doing so only makes the session unavailable for anyone else to join. Just as it is important to lock an unsupervised classroom door, virtual session access needs to be prevented as well.
