Welcome to American Sign Language (ASL). My name is Josie McGee and I've been teaching at Barbe High School since 2013. Prior to that, I taught in an elementary setting for five years, teaching Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. I am a child of Deaf Adults and I have a Deaf sibling - so, I'm in the "family" business, you might say.
In my class, students will learn basic vocabulary, grammar, sentence structure, and cultural foundations of ASL. Students will begin to learn to express themselves through signing by using fingerspelling, conceptual accuracy and grammar. ASL is also an introduction to the Deaf community. While ASL is a very "visual" language, it is also a very expressive and beautiful language and one I enjoy teaching to others.
