Bachelor of Instrumental Music Education

Ms. Kristy Touchet

I am from the small city of Kaplan in Vermilion Parish. I moved to Lake Charles in the fall of 2000 to attend McNeese State University and graduated in the fall of 2005. I’m currently in my fifteenth year of teaching but seven of those years were spent teaching classes out of my field of study. I’m incredibly grateful to be back in music and very excited to be at an elementary school for the first time in my career. Up until this year, my teaching experience had been all middle school. Teaching can often be a big challenge, but it is very self-fulfilling and it makes me happy when the students get excited and enjoy what they are learning.

When I’m not teaching music, I'm playing it as often as I can. I’m a Cajun musician who is self-taught on drums, accordion, and bass guitar. I grew up listening to my daddy play guitar and sing so music is definitely something I have always been exposed to. The best part is that we get to play together now. Before COVID, we would attend jam sessions regularly every Saturday afternoon. When I’m not at school, I love spending time with my family and friends.
