Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Jennifer Cryer

Teaching was not something I thought I would ever do.  I knew that I was going to be a public servant, but I thought that my calling was in law enforcement. I had nearly completed my degree in criminal justice before I realized that a career in law enforcement was not a good fit for me. I finished up my bachelor’s degree in criminal justice in the Spring of 2015 knowing that I would be returning to school to get my teaching certificate. I was fortunate enough to be hired at MJK a few days before school started in August of 2015, even though I was not certified.  I was moved to a special education classroom after my first year because a certified teacher wanted the 5th grade math and science position that I had.  After working with my students in the special education classroom, I knew that I had finally found my calling! After several failed attempts, I finally passed the math part of my praxis and was accepted to Louisiana College TEACH program to earn my alternate teaching certification.  I was dually enrolled to work on my certification and master’s in arts of teaching. I completed my certification in May 2019 and my MAT in December of 2019.    I am grateful for the path that God showed me.  I enjoy interacting with the students and seeing their faces light up when they realize that they have made progress.  I find my teaching career to be very rewarding.
