I, Leah Caldwell, am a high school teacher at Sulphur High School 9th Grade Campus (SHS9) for the Calcasieu Parish School Board (CPSB). The 2020-2021 school year is my fourteenth year with the parish and as a teacher. I currently teach English as a Second Language (ESL) for all CPSB high school English Language Learners (ELs) on the west side of the Calcasieu River. I have been teaching ESL at SHS9 for the last 5 years. Before SHS9, I taught several subjects throughout my nine years at DeQuincy High School. Those subjects included English II, English III, English IV, World History, Publication I, and Publication II. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from McNeese State University with a focus on English Education grades 7th-12th and a secondary teaching field in Social Studies. I also have an ESL teaching certification from the University of Phoenix. I enjoy being in the classroom and currently do not see myself in any other role in education. I love watching EL students grow in their language development throughout their time in the parish’s ESL program. I also enjoy collaborating with my students’ core teachers on strategies and lesson modifications to support our Els in all their classes.
