The Calcasieu Parish School Board received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for the 33rd straight year.

Sulphur grad achieves 12 years of Perfect Attendance
We are excited to recognize one of our outstanding 2022 high school graduates, Molly Peveto, for achieving 12 years of perfect attendance. Molly is an honor graduate from Sulphur High School with a GPA of 4.2. She is the daughter of Corey and Katy Doucet and Neil and Mandy Peveto.

CPSB Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus announces summer retirement
Calcasieu Parish School Board Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus has officially announced his retirement effective June 30, 2022. Superintendent Bruchhaus has been a pillar in both the school district and the community for many years. His 34-year career of serving Louisiana public school systems is a testament to his investment in the next generation. The last 26 years of his career have been dedicated to the students, faculty, and staff of the Calcasieu Parish School Board, with the most recent eight spent as the district’s top leader.

Phillips 66 Donates $90,000 to CPSB Robotics Programs
In recent years, Calcasieu Parish School Board’s STEM programs have stolen the spotlight as these career fields continue to be in high demand right here in Southwest Louisiana and across the country. These district STEM developments include the addition of the Region V STEM Center and the growth of robotics programs.

CPSB launching new high school virtual program
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is excited to announce the launch of the Virtual Instruction Program (V.I.P.) for those students in grades 9th-12th. This program will give students the opportunity to enroll in advanced courses while remaining on their own high school campuses. V.I.P. will provide all schools with access to a diverse menu of opportunities including dual enrollment courses through SOWELA Technical Community College, two new pathways, and courses that are of high interest to students but may not currently be available due to various reasons.

COVID-19 Update - December 31, 2021
Yesterday, December 30, 2021, the Louisiana Department of Health released new guidance regarding COVID-19. While these are not mandates, they are recommendations to help ensure our students are able to continue learning in their normal educational environment.

CPSB Statement on LDOE Simulated SPS Release
Our state measures progress, in most cases, using tests at the end of the school year. Calcasieu teachers, administrators, and the full student support teams, worked tirelessly to make up for lost time, a process that we know will take multiple years. Through all of the highs and lows of the state accountability program, we continue to acknowledge that our ultimate goal of student growth can only truly result from the quality relationship between our students and our dedicated classroom teachers.

HOW IT WORKS: Hurricane Recovery Construction Projects and FEMA Reimbursements
Staff at the Calcasieu Parish School Board is very saddened to deliver the news that all hurricane recovery construction projects in the district have been halted as of yesterday, September 7, 2021. Damages from Hurricane Laura and Hurricane Delta total an estimated $400 million, and with the absence of FEMA reimbursement thus far, our school system does not have cash available to continue the projects at this time.

Calcasieu Parish School Board partners with Calcasieu Parish Public Libraries to create virtual library cards for students
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is joining forces with Calcasieu Parish Public Libraries to offer new resources and learning opportunities for students. This new partnership will allow students to use their student ID as a virtual library card.

CPSB, United Way SWLA Partner to Bring Student Spaceflight Program to Region
The Calcasieu Parish School Board, with funding support from the United Way of Southwest Louisiana, is excited to announce that a new space experiment program will soon be available to students in our area through the Region 5 STEM Center.

All CPSB Students Eligible to Eat Free Next School Year
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is excited to announce that all students will be eligible to eat breakfast and lunch at school next year free of charge.

F.K. White Middle School Offering New Computer Science Courses to Students Through Amazon Future Engineer Program
F.K. White Middle School is now part of the Amazon Future Engineer program and will receive funding from Amazon to bring new computer science classes to students this August.

CPSB Rolling Out New Virtual Program Qualifications for 21-22
With the beginning of the 21-22 school year, the Calcasieu Parish School Board will be offering an evolved and improved virtual program for students. The need for a quality virtual program is here to stay, and CPSB’s faculty and staff will ensure that a virtual option remains in place for those students who qualify.

New Regional STEM Center Opening in Calcasieu
In continued efforts to build foundations for the future of our students, staff from the Calcasieu Parish School Board, joined with representatives from McNeese State University, secured the placement of a Regional STEM Center in our community through the Louisiana Regional STEM Network.

CPSB Coordinating Efforts to Offer COVID-19 Vaccine to Employees
On Thursday, February 18, Governor John Bel Edwards announced the criteria expansion of those individuals eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. As of today, February 22, all school and daycare teachers and support staff are now eligible.

ACT Fee Waiver Available for CPSB Seniors
As seniors across the country prepare for the next chapter in life, the ACT test is an important page in their high school journey. Current high school seniors here in Calcasieu Parish have experienced obvious obstacles in attempting to take the test this year. Those hoping to test in the spring were affected by COVID-19, and those hoping to test this fall have been affected by Hurricanes Laura and Delta.

New Jump Start Pathway Available to CPSB High School Students
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is excited to announce the addition of a pathway, Intro to Engineering, this year for students at Barbe High School and Washington Marion High School.

CPSB Cohort Graduation Rate Rises for Third Straight Year
For the third consecutive year, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is seeing an increase in the district’s cohort graduation rate, which indicates students graduating on time. The graduation rate for the 2018-2019 school year was 89.2%, a one-point increase over the previous year.
