CPSB Academic Performance rises 3.3 points with 82% of schools achieving School Performance Score growth
With today’s School Performance Score release from the Louisiana Department of Education, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce another year of district growth and significant improvement in schools across the district. The district’s overall score improved to an 86.1 (B), up 3.3 points from last year’s results and nearly ten points above the state’s performance. Out of all CPSB schools, 45 of those grew over performance from the 21-22 school year, and 48 of those schools are now labeled an A, B, or C campus.

CPSB home to 144 Advanced Placement Scholars as AP scores increase again
Following the recent release of Advanced Placement results from the Louisiana Department of Education, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is proud to announce increases across the board in results for local students completing tests in the 2022-2023 school year.

Dozens of CPSB students named to 2024 District V Middle School Honor Choir
The following students were selected for the 2024 District V Middle School Honor Choir. They will be working toward a performance on Friday, February 2nd at 6:30 pm in Tritico Theatre at McNeese State University.

CPSB receives school security improvement grant from Department of Justice
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is the recipient of a $500,000 school security improvement grant from the Department of Justice's Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.

CPSB Enrollment on the rise for second consecutive year
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is experiencing an enrollment increase for the 2023-2024 school year, marking the second consecutive year the number of K-12 students in the district is on the rise. Following the natural disasters of the 2020-2021 school year, seeing students return to the district is a promising sign for Southwest Louisiana.

Calcasieu named top ten district in LEAP score growth
With the LEAP 2025 score release from the Louisiana Department of Education today, the Calcasieu Parish School Board is being recognized as one of the top ten districts in score growth for the 2022-2023 school year. The district showed growth of three points over the previous year.

Calcasieu Parish School Board approves contract for additional security services
In continued efforts to ensure the safety of students, faculty, and staff, members of the Calcasieu Parish School Board voted to approve a contract between the district and Stratigos Dynamics, Inc. for security services within CPSB elementary schools.

CITGO Innovation Academy at E.K. Key Elementary Receives ITEEA Program Excellence Award
At the recent 85th annual conference for the International Technology and Engineering Educator Association (ITEEA), the CITGO Innovation Academy at E. K. Key Elementary was recognized as one of only 37 programs worldwide to earn the prestigious Program Excellence Award in 2023.

Six CPSB Schools to be recognized as State of Louisiana Certified World Language Immersion Schools
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is pleased to announce that six schools in the district will be officially recognized as State of Louisiana Certified World Language Immersion Schools next month by the Louisiana Department of Education.

Barbe High Junior Earns Perfect ACT Score
Julia Jiang achieved the perfect score in December in only her second attempt at the standardized test used for college admission.

T.S. Cooley Elementary Registration Beginning February 6
Registration for the 2023-2024 school term at T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet School will happen from February 6-28. Applications are being accepted online. Any student residing in Calcasieu Parish entering grades kindergarten through fifth grade may register to be tested for admission to the magnet school program.

Registration for E.K. Key STEM Academy opening February 1
Registration for the 2023-2024 school year at the CITGO Innovation Academy at E. K. Key Elementary School will begin Wednesday, February 1. All registration will take place online through March 10. Any Calcasieu Parish student zoned to high schools in Sulphur, Vinton, Starks, Dequincy, and Westlake who are entering grades kindergarten through fifth grade may register to be tested for admission.

Calcasieu Parish School Board receives LDOE Models of Excellence award
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is the newest recipient of the Louisiana Department of Education’s Models of Excellence award for the district’s Virtual Instruction Program initiative. The Virtual Instruction Program is in its first year of existence and is already significantly impacting high school education in the district.

Louisiana Caring Communities Youth Survey
During the period of January 9 to 20, 2023 CPSB students in grades 6, 8, 10, and 12 in our district are taking part in an important survey on substance abuse, school dropout, delinquency, and violence. The survey is called the Louisiana Caring Communities Youth Survey.

Calcasieu schools again show growth in School Performance Scores
Today the Louisiana Department of Education released individual school and system performance data for the 2021-2022 school year. The overall Calcasieu district performance score of 82.8 demonstrates growth of a full point over the last official LDOE scores from 2019 and again categorizes the district as a ‘B’ for 21-22. The score, 5.7 points above the state average, also shows a growth of 1.4 over Calcasieu’s simulated results for 2020-2021.

Calcasieu Parish School Board Chief Technology Officer, Kim Leblanc was one of three eSchool News 2022 K-12 Hero Awards winners
Kim Leblanc was nominated for this award by Bluum, which empowers educators with technology solutions that create exceptional learning environments, improving learning and making it more accessible. Kim was chosen for her next-level edtech procurement and implementation to give students the best learning experience possible.

CPSB, McNeese Athletics Launch “Building Cowboys for the Future”
The Calcasieu Parish School Board is joining forces with McNeese State University Athletics in a new endeavor: Building Cowboys for the Future. This program is a joint and ongoing effort to engage CPSB students with different facets of McNeese.

CenterPoint Energy Foundaton Donates $50,000 to STEM Nonprofit Learning Undefeated
LAKE CHARLES, LA (October 27, 2022) – Today, the CenterPoint Energy Foundation committed $50,000 to Learning Undefeated, a nonprofit providing free STEM education resources to local schools. The check presentation took place at Ray D. Molo Middle School in Lake Charles, La.

CPSB joined by SOWELA and McNeese in launch of LIFE Academy
The Calcasieu Parish School board is excited to announce the launch of LIFE Academy alongside McNeese State University and SOWELA Technical Community College. This partnership provides access to pre-employment transition services to students with significant developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Frasch Elementary Earns National Award for School, Family, and Community Partnerships
Frasch Elementary School earned a 2022 Partnership School Award from the National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS) at Johns Hopkins University. Frasch was recognized for making excellent progress in strengthening and sustaining a comprehensive program of school, family, and community partnerships.

Frasch Elementary Named 2022 National Blue Ribbon School
Today the U.S. Department of Education announced the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools which includes Frasch Elementary School in Sulphur. Frasch Elementary is one of only seven schools in the state to receive the honor this year, and one of less than 300 across the nation. The Blue Ribbon recognition is based on a school’s overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups.

LEAP Score Growth: CPSB Performance in Louisiana's Top 10
The Louisiana Department of Education released LEAP scores today for the 21-22 school year. The Calcasieu Parish School Board earned a top ten spot in the state in growth amongst elementary and middle schools. We are incredibly proud of the efforts of our students, teachers, and staff. These results are a testament to the hard work happening day in and day out in Calcasieu.

Uniform Policy Update: Addition of Blue Jeans
On July 12, 2022, members of the Calcasieu Parish School Board voted to amend the current dress code policy by adding blue jeans.
