Four T.S. Cooley Elementary Magnet school students participated in the annual LNG photo and drawing contest. These students were: Brooke B., Yaqoub K., Aubree B., and Kate M. The contest theme was “Louisiana Lifestyles” and the winning entries will be featured in the 2018 LNG calendar. 1st - 5th grade T.S. Cooley art students participated in the Creole Nature Trail Adventure Pointe and Southwest Louisiana Convention & Visitors Bureau Mini Christmas Decorating Contest. The T.S. Cooley BETA Club in conjunction with River City Pops, the Austin, TX Community Show Choir is sponsoring a holiday service project to bring warmth and caring to the students of Widen Elementary School in Austin, TX. Their needs were brought to our attention by our librarian, Mrs. Mary Lanier and her son, T.S. Cooley alumni Christopher Lanier. Mr. Lanier's friend, the counselor at Widen, said that this school is in great need of new hats, new scarves, new gloves, new socks and new or gently used coats. Donation boxes are set up in the front hallway near the office. The deadline to donate items is Tuesday, December 19th. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
Elementary, Middle, and High School students are invited to write and submit a 300-word essay on the following theme chosen by the MLK Coalition: The Theme is: “The Ultimate Measure Of A Man Is Not Where He Stands In Moments Of Comfort And Convenience, But Where He Stands At Times Of Challenge And Controversy.” Winners in each of the three divisions (High School, Middle School, and Elementary School divisions) will be awarded $250 for 1st place; $125 for Second place; and $75 for a 3rd place prize. Each winner will read their winning essays during the televised broadcast January 12, 2018 at the Annual Memorial Breakfast at the Glad Tidings Church 3400 Texas Street in Lake Charles. Students will receive awards during the televised broadcast of the 34th Annual MLK Memorial Breakfast and Awards Program. Students will also represent his/her respective school in the 2018 MLK Parade, Monday January 15, 2018. All MLK Essay entries must be received no later than January 5, 2018 to be considered.
