The Calcasieu Parish School Board ESL Program uses these “guiding principles” to ensure high-quality, equitable education for all English language learners. 

1. English learners receive instruction that builds on their previous education, cognitive abilities, language and proficiency levels. 
2. English learners are evaluated with appropriate, valid assessments that are aligned with state and local standards and that take into account the English proficiency levels of the students. 
3. The academic success of English learners is a responsibility shared by all educators, the family, and the community.
