School Age Mothers (SAM)

SAM School Age Mothers provides continued course-work and learning for expectant or new mothers in Calcasieu Parish School Board.  This learning option is provided to expectant mothers who can’t attend school before delivery due to medical complications or up to six weeks post-delivery.  The site is provided by Christus St. Patrick Hospital and offers a small group setting, virtual learning using Odysseyware and college and/or career readiness.  The instructor connects students to pre and post natal care and information, community resources and parenting skills. Additional onsite support is provided by hospital homebound teachers.
