Did you know that Louisiana law now requires students 16 years of age entering 11th grade or 16 years of age entering any other grade level to have a second dose of Meningococcal vaccination?
The vaccination is required at 11 years old and a second dose is due at age 16.

HAND HYGIENE: The Dirt On Germs
Flu and the common cold are both respiratory illnesses but they are caused by different viruses. Because these two types of illnesses have similar symptoms, it can be difficult to tell the difference between them based on symptoms alone. In general, flu is worse than the common cold, and symptoms are more intense. Colds are usually milder than flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems, such as pneumonia, bacterial infections, or hospitalizations. Flu can have very serious associated complications. The chart below gives some characteristics of each to help you tell the difference. However, whenever you are in doubt, it is always best to see your doctor.

LICE ARE TINY BUGS THAT LIKE TO LIVE IN YOUR HAIR
PREVENT THE SPREAD
- Avoid sharing hats, scarves and other clothing
- Avoid using your friends’ combs and brushes
- Avoid head to head contact- ( think about “selfie pictures”!)
IF YOUR HEAD ITCHES, TELL YOUR TEACHER OR THE SCHOOL NURSE RIGHT AWAY
- Your teacher or any staff member will need to look in your hair for the tiny bugs or eggs.
- If there are lice bugs or lice eggs found, they will need to be specially treated with medication and removed with a comb.
- This can be done at home or at a lice clinic.
